Abstract: The disclosure concerns a roll changing device for roll stands of a rolling mill or the like having a pair of working rolls and backing rolls assigned to each working roll in which the roll pairs, including their component bearing parts, can be moved as separate units into and out of the windows of the housings of the mill. A piston cylinder assembly provided for this purpose is arranged in front of the understructure for the support member of the lower backing roll.
Abstract: Transfer apparatus for a workpiece such as a metal slab, bloom or coil of metal strip comprises a carriage supported on a substantially horizontal beam. The beam is displaceable in the direction of its length and the ends of a flexible cable are connected to opposite ends of the carriage with a reach of the cable extending substantially parallel to the length of the beam. An intermediate point of the cable is firmly anchored so that displacement of the beam causes the carriage to be displaced along the beam as well as its movement with the beam. The beam can also be raised and lowered.
Abstract: The disclosure of this application relates to a looper device employed to impose a constant tension on a strip as it passes between the stands of a tandem rolling mill. The looper is operated by an hydraulic actuator which is controlled by a computer controlled hydraulic servosystem. The computer is fed a signal of the position of the looper and calculates the required pressure difference across the actuator for a desired tension.

Abstract: A rolling mill stand for hot or cold rolling rod and flats has a C-shaped housing and a bolt connecting the protruding ends of the housing. The work rolls are mounted in cantilever fashion and are carried in chocks which are restrained by the housing. The chocks are pivoted to the housing about pivot pins, the axes of which are parallel to the axes of the work rolls and are displaced from the plane through the roll axes. Pivoting of the chocks about the pivot pins in order to vary the separation of the work rolls does not affect the shape of the roll gap.
