    Abstract: A ratchet tensioner includes a mechanism for selectively locking and releasing a plunger with respect to a ratchet pawl. The plunger locking and releasing mechanism has an actuator plate secured to the shaft of a ratchet pawl body for co-rotation therewith above the outside surface of a housing shaft in which a pin-accommodating hole is formed. The actuator plate has a pin-insertion hole smaller in diameter than the pin-accommodating hole and is manually movable about the axis of the shaft in opposite directions between a locking position in which the pin-insertion hole is in substantial alignment with the pin-accommodating hole and the engagement between a ratchet pawl and ratchet teeth on the plunger is maintained, and a releasing position in which the pin-insertion hole is out of alignment with the pin-accommodating hole, and the ratchet pawl is released from interlocking engagement with the ratchet teeth against the force of a ratchet pawl spring.

    Abstract: A lever assembly includes a lever and a fastener for pivotally mounting the lever to a fixed support member. The lever is composed of a lever body made of a plastic and a reinforcement plate assembled with the plastic lever body. The lever body has a first groove formed in one surface of the lever body and extending from a central through-hole to a position in proximity of a mount hole formed at one end of the lever body, and a second groove formed in the opposite surface of the lever body and extending from the central through-hole to a position in proximity of the other end of the lever body. The reinforcement plate is fitted in the first and second grooves across the central through-hole of the lever body. The fastener comprised of a screw with flanged head has a portion lying over part of the reinforcement plate to prevent the reinforcement plate from displacing off the lever body.

The relief valve mechanism has a valve spring disposed between a valve and a spring retainer plug in a compressed condition. The maximum displacement of the valve and the maximum amount of compression of the valve spring are defined by the stopper surface so that the maximum shear stress acting in a wire of the valve spring is less than a fatigue limit of the valve spring wire.

    Abstract: A toothed belt power transmission system includes a toothed belt having evenly spaced teeth adapted to mesh with evenly spaced teeth on a toothed pulley for power transmission. The belt teeth have a curved engagement surface including a convexly arcuate tip portion and a concavely arcuate root portion that come in sliding contact with a concavely arcuate root portion and a convexly arcuate tip portion, respectively, of a curved engagement surface of the pulley teeth in such a manner that a space is defined between the confronting engagement surfaces of the belt and pulley teeth. By virtue of the space thus formed, air confined between the belt tooth and pulley tooth is allowed to escape in the transverse direction of the belt and does never produce bursting sound at the mesh of the belt tooth with the pulley tooth. In this instance, the air serves also as a pneumatic damper and thus suppresses the impact force.

    Abstract: Described is a motivational fitness device, which controls volume and power on a television or stereo component in response to the heart rate. The user must exercise in their specific heart rate target training range to keep their entertainment device turned on at an enjoyable volume. A heart rate sensing device relays heart rate to a remote control unit. The control unit receives and compares the users heart rate to the specified target range and sends infrared remote control signals (or not) to the entertainment device. If the user's heart rate drops below the target range, the volume of their entertainment device will gradually decrease and ultimately switch off until the user reacquires their target. Conversely, if the user is exercising too vigorously the volume will increase, motivating the user to reacquire their target heart rate range. This device requires no exercise equipment yet any type may be used with it.

The method comprises partially inflating the gas containment envelope (5) with a lighter than air gaseous medium to cause the nose portion to rise within a vertical launch enclosure (10) to position the partially inflated gas containment envelope (5) in a launch position, and subsequently releasing the partially inflated gas containment envelope (5) from its launch position through an open top of the vertical enclosure so that the envelope ascends clear of the vertical enclosure (10) and lifts the payload means (15) and drive motor (6) by means of the cables.

    Abstract: A ratchet tensioner includes a plunger releasing mechanism for turning a ratchet pawl against the force of a plunger spring to disengage a locking prong of the ratchet pawl from a rack tooth of a plunger. The plunger releasing mechanism has a pin insertion hole formed in a plunger housing transversely across a recessed groove formed in the housing for mounting the ratchet pawl, and a sloped surface formed on the ratchet pawl and normally extending obliquely across the axis of the pin insertion hole. The sloped surface, upon abutment with the tip end of a pin which is inserted in the pin insertion hole, is capable of causing the ratchet pawl to turn against the force of the ratchet spring to thereby disengage the locking prong of the ratchet pawl from the rack tooth of the plunger for releasing the plunger.

The tip of the annular projection is deformed plastically from the inner to the outer periphery side of the annular projection by a caulking roller. The caulking roller has a first conical surface of a large angle and a second conical surface of a small angle contiguous to the first conical surface, the first and second conical surfaces being formed on an outer peripheral surface of the caulking roller. The annular flange is thereby caulked to the sintered cam pulley body.
