Abstract: A multi-stage extraction process for extracting oil from naturally occurring oil-bearing organic materials. The oil, which is extracted, is inherent in the organic material by nature and is extracted in two or more extraction stages with an effective solvent at effective temperatures and pressures. The oil-bearing organic material is subjected to a vacuum between each extraction stage.
Abstract: A process for selectively producing C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 olefins from a catalytically cracked or thermally cracked naphtha stream is disclosed. A mixture of the naphtha stream and a stream of steam is feed into a reaction zone where it is contacted with a catalyst containing from about 10 to 50 wt. % of a crystalline zeolite having an average pore diameter less than about 0.7 nanometers at reaction conditions which include temperatures from about 500 to 650.degree. C. and a hydrocarbon partial pressure from about 10 to 40 psia.

Abstract: A method for preparing unsymmetrical dialkyl ethers and derivatives thereof. The ethers are prepared by reacting a C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 aliphatic alcohol with a tertiary alcohol in the presence of a novel catalyst comprised of a transition metal pillared interlayered clay having generally separated layers wherein the interlayer distances are substantially greater than a precursor of the same but non-separated clay and wherein the product includes multimetallic pillars comprised of a cationic polymeric complex of the formula:Al.sup.iv (Al.sub.12-x M.sub.x).sup.vi O.sub.4 (OH).sub.24.sup.a+where x is a number from 1 to 6; a depends on the selection of M and N; N is selected from Al.sup.3+, Si.sup.4+, Ga.sup.3+, Ge.sup.4+, As.sup.5+, P.sup.5+, Cr.sup.3+, Fe.sup.3+, V.sup.5+, Ru.sup.3+, Ru.sup.4+, N.sup.3+ ; and M is selected from a metal from Groups 5B, 6B, 7B and 8 of the 4th, 5th and 6th Periods of the Periodic Table of the Elements.
Abstract: A zeolite of the L type is prepared by an approximately stoichiometric process wherein the zeolite is crystallized from a reaction mixture aged at from 80.degree. to 260.degree. C. containing specified ranges of molar ratios of KOH (and optionally a minor amount of NaOH), water, potassium silicate, and a source of alumina preferably derived from kaolin or halloysite. Most preferably, the source of alumina is metakaolin.
Abstract: A polyvinyl chloride composition having superior processing and thermal stability properties is prepared by blending with the polyvinyl chloride a copolymer of an .alpha.-olefin and an unsaturated epoxy monomer, or a terpolymer of an .alpha.-olefin, an unsaturated epoxy monomer and an epoxy-free monomer, such as an acrylate ester.
