  • Patent number: 7161157
Abstract: The present application discloses an x-ray detector for use in a computed tomography (CT) imaging system. The x-ray detector assembly comprises an array of detector cells coupled between detector rails. The present invention provides a self regulating heating element having a body that, when current is passed therethrough, radiates heat until a specific reference temperature is reached, at which point the resistance of the PTC heater increases, thus reducing the current through the PTC heater, and, as a result, the radiative heating of the PTC heater.

  • Patent number: 7114850
Abstract: The present invention provides a method to detect tube spits and to reduce spit related artifacts in a computed tomography imaging system. A way of detecting tube spit is to monitor the generator kilovolt or milliamp waveforms. Changes in kV waveform follow closely with those in offset-corrected projection data. If a tube-spit event is not detected, processing proceeds without tube spit correction. If a tube-spit event is detected, a tube spit correction is performed. The objective of tube-spit correction is to remove image artifacts due to the occurrence of a tube-spit event.

  • Patent number: 7102137
Abstract: The present invention provides a CT detector module with cell summing in the Z-direction and cell staggering in the X-direction. The present invention also provides a method for implementing the present invention by simply combining the cells in the Z-direction. The staggering of the cells in the Z-axis improves the signal sampling in the Z-direction without changing either the X-axis or Y-axis resolution. In effect, this provides spatial resolution in the Z-direction.

  • Patent number: 7034530
Abstract: An MR imaging pulse sequence provides a method for simultaneous data acquisition from more than one independently prescribed volume while providing optimized field uniformity during both the magnetization preparation and data acquisition parts of the acquisition. The method is based on the use of a multi-element array coil where individual RF coil elements are more sensitive to one of the separate volumes of interest than to the other volumes. In the example of breast imaging, one scenario would have two coil elements that are designed to be most sensitive to the signal from the left breast, and two coil elements that are designed to be most sensitive to the signal from the right breast. An optimized pulse sequence and reconstruction technique is used to simultaneously acquire two separate sagittal imaging volumes corresponding to the left and right breasts with optimized fat suppression.

  • Patent number: 7015692
Abstract: The present invention provides for a cooling system for circulating a coolant to cool the patient bore. In one embodiment, that patient bore consists of two concentric cylinders separated by spacers running either longitudinally or helically. In another embodiment of the present invention, fluid may be passed either helically or longitudinally through tubes bonded to the outer diameter of the patient bore such that the parts of the bore that are exposed to the patient are directly cooled. In a third embodiment, the RF coil could form part of the patient bore, with the helical or longitudinal fluid channels surrounding the patient bore.

  • Patent number: 6988990
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for using the computer keyboard and/or speech recognition technology to automatically fill an image annotation during an ultrasound scan. More specifically, it provides a method and a system for annotating a displayed ultrasound image using commands that is comprised of; providing an annotation vocabulary sorted in descending order of usage frequency providing a method to select a subset of words from the vocabulary that are relevant to the imaged anatomy, detecting the initial command, selecting a suggestion list from the selected sub-vocabulary, and displaying the suggestion list to the user for optional acceptance or further specification.

  • Patent number: 6979124
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing an image quality test and reporting method for x-rays that allows a field engineer to effectively maintain and troubleshoot vascular imaging systems produced by all manufactures. In general, the method and apparatus of the present invention provides for a test stand, a plurality of x-ray test phantoms (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70) and a computer program for data entry, analysis and storage of the test results.
