    Abstract: A metal coil printing mechanism for providing alignment between two patterns to be printed on a surface of the coil includes a blanket cylinder for applying a pattern to the metal coil and first and second plate cylinders which apply first and second patterns to the blanket cylinder. The first plate cylinder is geared directly to the blanket cylinder for rotation therewith. The second plate cylinder is geared for rotation with the blanket cylinder through a phase shifting device. The phase shifting device can be adjusted such that the circumferential position of the second pattern relative to the first pattern is adjusted such that desired alignment of the two patterns can be obtained.

    Abstract: This invention involves an improved ball-type check valve for use in conditions such as oil and gas drilling which involve abrasive fluids, high pressures, and high temperatures. In this improved check valve, a one-piece ball retainer is provided which consists of (1) a retainer ring for the ball, (2) a base, and (3) at least two vertical supports which connect the retainer ring and the base. Peripheral channels are formed by (a) orifices which pass between the vertical supports, adjoined to (b) recessed areas in the base. This allows the interior passageway (through the retainer ring) to be relatively large in relation to the peripheral channels. This has two effects. When downward flow begins, fluid velocity through the interior passageway is relatively high, which helps ensure rapid settling of the ball on the retainer ring.

    Abstract: A fume detector including a gas sensor having a heater element and a variable impedance element associated therewith whose impedance decreases in the presence of toxic gases or fumes, or a decrease of free oxygen in an atmosphere being monitored. A load resistor in series circuit with the gas sensor and a pair of series connected potentiometers in parallel circuit with the gas sensor and the load resistor form a Wheatstone bridge. A first voltage comparator connected to one of the potentiometers and a reference voltage provides a signal when the supply voltage decreases below a predetermined level. A second voltage comparator connected to the other potentiometer and a junction between the gas sensor and the load resistor provides a signal when the gas sensor fails in the open circuit condition. A third voltage comparator connected across the bridge provides a signal when a toxic gas condition exists.

    Abstract: The resistance of field-raised swine to dysentery infection is increased by a sequence of parenteral and oral administrations. First there is parenterally administered to the swine an injectable cell concentrate containing a virulent isolate of killed cells of Treponema hyodysenteriae, and not less than five days after the animals have received the first of the parenteral injections, a series of oral administrations of enteric-coated pellets is started, the pellets containing concentrated killed cells of a virulent isolate of T. hyodysenteriae. The oral administrations are given at least once every 24 hours for a period of at least five days.
