Abstract: A storm panel is provided for shielding a structure. The storm panel includes at least one corrugation, and comprises a first wall and a second wall disposed in spaced-apart relation. An angled wall is disposed between and connected to the first wall and the second wall to support the second wall away from the first wall. At least one ridge is disposed proximate the point of connection between the second wall and the angled wall, and may have a shape configured to strengthen the panel proximate the point of connection between the second wall and the angled wall. In addition, a storm panel assembly is provided comprising at least one storm panel and a mounting extrusion for attachment to the storm panel to provide support for the storm panel on a mounting surface, such as the side of a building.

Abstract: Disclosed are devices for detecting the presence of a preselected analyte in a fluid sample. The devices comprise a substrate microfabricated to define a sample inlet port, and a mesoscale flow system that includes a sample flow channel extending from the inlet port. The mesoscale flow system further includes an analyte detection region in fluid communication with the flow channel comprised of a binding moiety for specifically binding the analyte. The detection region is constructed with a mesoscale dimension sufficiently small to enhance binding of the binding moiety and the analyte. The binding moiety may be immobilized in the detection region. The mesoscale detection systems of the invention may be used in a wide range of applications, including the detection of cells or macromolecules, or for monitoring reactions or cell culture growth.

Abstract: An object name system (ONS) for locating one or more servers associated with an Electronic Product Code (EPC) is described. The system utilizes translation format strings to translate an EPC to an EPC domain prefix. The ONS server matches the EPC number to the address of a second server which has extensive information about the product. The second server recognizes the incoming EPC's as belonging to a particular object or service.

Abstract: A motor has an engine block with cylinders arranged to fire in a firing order. A recirculation system delivers combusted mixture from a cylinder which has just fired to at least partly mix with fuel for the next cylinder in the firing order. Injector bodies (401-405) are associated with each cylinder. Each injector body (401-405) has an internal chamber (424) in communication with a fuel inlet port (426) for delivering fuel into the internal chamber, a fuel outlet port (428) for delivering fuel under pressure from the chamber into the associated cylinder and a combusted mixture out-let port (442). The combusted mixture outlet port (442) of each injector body (401-405) is fluidly connected to the combusted mixture inlet port (438) of the next cylinder in the firing order. Alternatively, the recirculation system is arranged substantially internally within the cylinder head.
Abstract: An apparatus for producing a yarn including reciprocating twisting stage (4) adapted to simultaneously twist one or more slivers to produce one or more twisted strands, including one or more rollers (6a, 6b) arranged to move reciprocally (B) along the axis of rotation of the roller(s) to input twist to the sliver(s), and control means enabling control and variation of one or more of: (a) rotation speed of the rollers(s); (b) extent of transverse movement of the roller(s)s; or (c) speed of the transverse movement of the roller(s), to vary the twist imparted to the sliver(s) or strand(s).
Abstract: A system, and computer implemented method are provided for interactively displaying three-dimensional structures. Three-dimensional volume data (34) is formed from a series of two-dimensional images (33) representing at least one physical property associated with the three-dimensional structure, such as a body organ having a lumen. A wire frame model of a selected region of interest is generated (38b). The wireframe model is then deformed or reshaped to more accurately represent the region of interest (40b). Vertices of the wire frame model may be grouped into regions having a characteristic indicating abnormal structure, such as a lesion. Finally, the deformed wire frame model may be rendered in an interactive three-dimensional display.

Abstract: An automobile seat in which spaced apart side brackets of a seat back are individually faced to spaced apart side brackets of a seat cushion, a pivot shaft is penetrated through the brackets and bridged between the brackets, and reclining lock devices are assembled on the axis of the pivot shaft to the side brackets, whereby the seat back is held upright such that the angle of the seat back relative to the seat cushion is adjustable and that the seat back is reclinable forward and rearward, and in which the seat back is urged by return spring members to the upright direction. The spring members comprise first and second torsion bar springs that are arranged in proximity to the pivot shaft. The springs are engaged at both end portions thereof with corresponding side brackets in such a manner that the springs cross each other.
Abstract: A trampoline has an enclosure system including a barrier of a flexible material (14) such as a net material surrounding the trampoline mat above the mat and having a lower peripheral part coupled directly or indirectly to the mat, and a plurality of resiliently flexible generally upright enclosure support members or rods (13) which are retained at or towards the lower ends of the enclosure support members and below the mat (1) by the frame (4) of the trampoline and which support the net above the mat, so that the enclosure is free to deform away from the mat when impacted by a user against an enclosure support member and/or against said barrier of flexible material.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a link plate for a roller chain, and the resulting link plate in which (1) the link plate has a shape comprising a pair of right and left pin holes, a pair of right and left half arcs, which are spaced outwardly from the pin holes respectively, and a pair of upper and lower straight line portions connecting both ends of the pair of right and left half arcs. There are shaved lengths along the pair of upper and lower straight line portions extending into the half arcs, the shaved length extending between the outermost positions of both ends of said pin holes.
Abstract: Provided are previously uncharacterised markers of cancers, for example colorectal cancers, and uses of these as diagnostic and prognostic markers of cancers, and in particular colorectal cancers. The markers are SEQ ID NO: 1—hnRNP-K; SEQ ID NO:2—HMG-1; SEQ ID NO:3—proteasome subunit alpha type 1; SEQ ID NO:4—bifunctional purine biosynthesis protein; SEQ ID NO:5—ST11; SEQ ID NO:6—annex in IV; SEQ ID NO:7—60 kDa heat shock protein; SEQ ID NO:8—T complex protein 1 beta subunit; SEQ ID NO:9—T complex protein 1 epsilon subunit; SEQ ID NO: 10—mortalin; and SEQ ID NO: 11—TER-ATPase. The invention further provides related methods and materials for the use of the markers in therapeutic intervention in colorectal and other cancers e.g. to specifically target neoplastic cells without causing significant toxicity in healthy tissues, and to provide methods for the evaluation of the ability of candidate therapeutic compounds to modulate the biological activity of cancerous cells from the colon, rectum and other tissues.

Abstract: A parametric process is provided for producing visible light at a second wavelength including pumping an optical fiber (4) with input light (1) at a first wavelength of less than one micron, which is longer than the second wavelength, and wherein the optical fiber (4) has zero group velocity dispersion at a third wavelength in the visible or near infrared region and longer than the first wavelength. An optical amplifier that uses the parametric process for producing light at second wavelength is also provided. The optical fiber (4) may be a photonic crystal fiber. The parametric process is tuneable by adjusting the frequency of the zero group velocity dispersion, the frequency of the first wavelength or the birefringence of the optical fiber (4).
Abstract: An arrangement for a MALDI sample plate for ion mass spectroscopy is disclosed. The sample is configured to shape the hypersonic explosion which creates the ions generated in a MALDI-type time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The MALDI sample plate includes a glass wafer formed from a plurality of clad glass fibers and has a first planar surface. The plate also has a plurality of micro-wells formed in the glass wafer. The micro-wells extend to a depth that is less than the thickness of the glass wafer and act to hold a spot sample in a manner that prevents spreading, maximizes the formation of ions, and shapes the resulting ion cloud to improve ion migration.
Abstract: The invention comprises a trampoline including a flexible mat, a plurality of resiliently flexible rods each having a lower end retained in a frame of the trampoline and an enlarged upper end, and a plurality of fittings coupled to the mat about a periphery of the mat and including on or in an underside of each fitting a socket cavity which receives the upper end of a flexible rod so that the upper ends of the flexible rods are pivotally connected to the periphery of the mat, the fitting also including an entry into the socket cavity for the enlarged upper end of the flexible rod through an upper side of the fitting and a restricted entry towards the socket cavity for a part of the flexible rod below said enlarged upper end and through which the rod upper end cannot pass, to one side of the fitting and defined between opposed side or underside parts of the fitting.

Abstract: A precipitation hardenable nickel base alloy that provides a novel combination of elevated temperature strength, ductility, and reduced notch sensitivity at temperatures up to about 1300° F. is described. The alloy contains, in weight percent, about Carbon 0.10 max. Manganese 0.35 max. Silicon 0.2-0.7 Phosphorus 0.03 max. Sulfur 0.015 max. Chromium 12-20 Molybdenum 4 max. Tungsten 6 max. Cobalt 5-12 Iron 14 max. Titanium 0.4-1.4 Aluminum 0.6-2.6 Niobium 3-7 Boron 0.003-0.015 the balance being nickel and usual impurities. An article made from the alloy and a method of making the alloy are also disclosed.
