  • Patent number: 4423848
Abstract: An improved helicopter seat primarily for combat aircraft includes at least upper, intermediate, and lower pairs of energy absorbers attached between the seat bucket and the frame of the helicopter and operable in both tension and compression. An upper pair and lower pair of steel tension rods attached between the frame and the seat bucket provide attentuation in a lateral direction. The energy absorbers comprise a plurality of telescoped tubes interfitted into one another and having coils of wire frictionally engaged between adjoining tubes such that energy is dissipated by motion of the tubes relative to one another through the plastic deformation of the coils of wire. The energy absorbers are adjusted to optimize the safety parameters of occupants of the seat under a range of potential crash conditions including the most probable crash condition, and for occupants having a substantial range of weight.

  • Patent number: 4418848
Abstract: An in-line electrically operated dispensing faucet for fluids such as beer and other liquids. A reciprocatable plunger operates in a tubular member relative to a seat. An electromagnetic device is provided for reciprocating the plunger. The plunger has channels to provide for in-line flow through it and through the tubular member between the inlet and outlet. In a second form of the invention, a second in-line plunger is provided in the tubular member and a second electromagnetic device constructed to be powered by way of pulsating DC voltage so as to reciprocate the second plunger is provided. The second plunger is also of in-line construction so that the flow is in line with the axis of the plunger and with the tubular member. The second plunger is restrained by a spring and is able to engage the first plunger so as to intermittently interrupt flow through the first plunger for purposes of creating foam within the tubular member.

  • Patent number: 4417755
Abstract: The invention is a pipe coupling particularly adapted for coupling together the ends of pipes that may or may not have annular end ribs, i.e. spigot beads. The coupling embodies a gasket into which the ends of the pipes are fitted. Deformable (semi-rigid) clamping members clamp around the gasket and the ends of the pipe. These members have shallow internal annular recesses. The gasket has diametrically opposed extending ears which are clamped between mating end parts forming lugs on the clamping members. The gasket has an integral external annular rib which fits into the annular recesses in the clamping members; pipes with spigot beads are accommodated in the annular recesses of the clamping members. The clamping members when clamped (torqued) deform to apply clamping pressure to the gasket throughout the entire circumference.

  • Patent number: 4416775
Abstract: A filter assembly or unit having end caps or fittings which are held together by tie rods with a filter casing between them and sealed to them. A filter cartridge is within the casing. Each end fitting or cap is constructed to provide a slideway to receive a sliding member that seals to the end fitting and which sealing engages an end of the filter casing. The sliding members can be secured to the end fittings. The sliding members along with the filter casing can be removed laterally from the assembly, the end fittings or caps remaining coupled in an air or gas line containing fluid to be filtered. In this manner the cartridge or cartridges can be replaced in the filter casing without uncoupling the end fittings from the an air or gas line and without disassembling the cage formed by the end fittings and the tie rods.

  • Patent number: 4416202
Abstract: The invention is an improvement in mechanisms or apparatus for transporting articles or products between points such as work stations in an industrial plant or the like. A track or trackway is provided running between different points or work stations, the track provides fixed rail members. A truck or trolley equipped with rollers on its underside is movable on the trackway between different points or work stations, the trackway being supported at spaced intervals. The truck or trolley is provided with wheels or rollers that are engageable with the track. The truck or trolley is provided with additional wheels positioned so that the truck can move at right angles to the track into a shunt position at a particular work station. Articles such as devices being produced can thus be very readily moved about from one point to another, that is, from one work station to another in a plant area.

  • Patent number: 4414037
Abstract: A system utilizing a dry steam jet for cleaning, sterilizing and related purposes. A steam generator in the form of a flash boiler with a heat source is utilized. A reservoir containing a mixture of water and containing a cleaning agent or other chemical is provided. A motor driven reciprocating pump, pumps the liquid mixture into the flash boiler. The mixture immediately is vaporized and then is discharged through the jet nozzle. The system is coordinated to be operated electrically under manual control. The flash boiler is internally etched in a non-uniform manner to enhance the flashing of the liquid. The pump speed, water flow, etched boiler size, and applied heating temperature are coordinated to achieve the result that a steady flow at the desired pressure and temperature from the jet nozzle can be had.

  • Patent number: 4403436
Abstract: A double barrel firearm provides a selector mechanism so that either barrel can be selected to be fired first. A pair of sears is provided cooperating with hammers. The trigger can actuate either sear that has been selected by the selector mechanism for firing either barrel first. The trigger actuates a connector. The connector can actuate the selected sear. Each sear has engagement with a part of the connector whereby when a sear is actuated, it will move the connector rearwardly, the connector being biased forwardly so that it will then come into a more forward position for engagement with the second sear. Even if the barrel selected to be fired first does not fire, the second barrel will be fired on the second pull of the trigger. The connector also serves as an inertia block so it has the capability of responding to inertia to be repositioned for actuating the second sear in the event the first barrel fires in response to the first pull of the trigger.

  • Patent number: 4369518
Abstract: A compact antenna system for use in connection with pay television reception comprises a resonant cavity including a small dipole, the latter being connected to a circuit board containing circuitry for converting the received pay television signal to a frequency usable by the television receiver of the subscriber. The member defining the cavity is affixed to the circuit board, which in turn is mounted upon a holder attached to the exterior of the structure in which the television receiver is located. The circuit board includes a preamplifier-filter stage to filter extraneous signals and to promote preamplification of the signal from the antenna. The preamplified signal goes to the input of a mixer and from there is filtered to the frequency of the channel selected by the user of the television receiver. At least one triangular circuit element is utilized in the preamplifier and in the mixer.

  • Patent number: 4345535
Abstract: A system for sailboats for the purpose of maintaining the trim or attitude of the hull in a level position and at the same time adjusting the rigging and keel. The mast is made so that it can tilt to port or starboard and apparatus is provided to produce a force or torque tending to urge the mast back to its upright position and to produce a righting moment on the hull. Alternative apparatus is provided to produce these forces. A rotatable keel is provided which is automatically adjusted when the mast tilts to compensate for the tendency of the craft to make leeway while under way. An auxiliary mast is provided, suspended from the top of the regular mast which is swung to port or starboard to keep the mainsail substantially upright. A horizontally movable jib boom is provided for the foresail and sheets are provided so that the helmsman can adjust the aspect of the foresail to keep it aligned with the mainsail when the mast tilts.
