  • Patent number: 5388947
Abstract: The mechanical vehicle restraining device of the present invention secures a truck or other parked vehicle to a loading dock by locking onto the vehicle ICC bar thereby securing the vehicle. The device includes a base mounting plate mounted on the face of the loading dock wall and a hook positioned to move vertically within a frame guide attached to the base mounting plate. A counterbalance weight is positioned to move vertically within a second frame guide adjacent to the hook frame guide. The hook and the counterbalance weight are connected by a flexible cable. By manually depressing the hook, the hook moves down and the counterbalance weight moves up to engage a latching device. When the latching device is released, the counterbalance weight moves down thereby raising the hook until the hook engages the ICC bar.

  • Patent number: 5388938
Abstract: A strap hook retainer for releasably retaining the hook portion of a hold down strap. The retainer includes a rectangular frame having a first opening of a first dimension in a first elongated side, and a second opening of a second dimension in a second elongated side disposed opposite the first side. A pivoting plate is located within the frame and is attached to and pivoted by an arm that extends through, and is supported by, the two short sides of the rectangular frame. The hook may be inserted into the frame via the first opening and is retained by the pivoting plate as the hook extends through the second opening and the pivoting plate pivots downward to engage the "U" portion of the hook. The hook is prevented from release by the configuration of the second opening until the plate is manually pivoted into a raised position. The hook may then be removed from the frame while the plate is held in the raised pivot position.

  • Patent number: 5383251
Abstract: A self-propelled floor cleaning machine or scrubber of the walk-behind type includes a one-piece molded main body incorporating an integral solution tank. The main body includes a central cavity in which is received a one-piece molded secondary body defining a recovery tank. The main body receives the secondary body in an interlocking fashion such that the entire unit is self-supporting, such that the use of gaskets or sealers between the tanks and other components is eliminated. The main body is supported on a steel frame which also supports the batteries, cables, wheels, brushes, squeegee, and the like (frame components). The main body fits over the frame components and together with the secondary body provides a water shedding cover therefore.

  • Patent number: 5373873
Abstract: A gauge block assembly for use in conjunction with the refilling of high pressure gaseous oxygen cylinders. The gauge block is used in an oxygen transfill header or manifold and includes a gas transfer control unit that allows rapid evacuation of the spent oxygen cylinder but that prevents rapid refilling of the oxygen cylinder with fresh oxygen. The gas transfer control unit includes a valve assembly having a restricted orifice therethrough. During the evacuation process, the check valve opens, bypassing the restricted orifice, to allow rapid evacuation of the oxygen cylinder at a first rate of flow. During the refilling process, the check valve closes. The incoming oxygen must flow through the restricted orifice at a second rate of flow less than the first rate of flow thereby regulating the flow of oxygen.

  • Patent number: 5213586
Abstract: A vent check valve for use with a fluid pump such as a chemical pump wherein the vent check valve includes a floatation chamber and floatation member therein such that air is allowed to flow therethrough during normal operation of the pump while the liquid is prevented from flowing therethrough in the event of a malfunction of the pump. The vent check valve also includes a porous member thereon which allows air to flow therethrough while preventing direct access into and contamination of the vent check valve.

  • Patent number: 5155876
Abstract: The floor cleaning machine utilizes an integrated sound baffle to reduce the noise level of the machine during operation. The floor cleaning machine relies upon a vacuum motor to create a negative pressure in a recovery tank for operation of a vacuum squeegee. The integrated sound baffle is a hollow u-shaped body having an interior passageway through which the exhaust from the vacuum motor is directed. The noisy exhaust is required to turn four 90.degree. corners as it passes through the interior passageway of the baffle which reduces the noise level of the exhaust. The moist exhaust is also isolated from the brush motor and the vacuum motor while it passes through the hollow baffle. The baffle is an integrated component of the apparatus and is a load bearing member for the solution tank and the recovery tank. The baffle can be roto-molded using conventional techniques with a thermoplastic such as HDPE.

  • Patent number: 5133591
Abstract: The Improved Wheel is suitable for use on lawn mowers, trash containers, toy wagons and other similar devices. The Improved Wheel is formed in a two step manufacturing process. In the first step, a quantity of hubs are injection molded from a thermoplastic or a thermoset plastic. Two opposing interlocking hubs are used in the manufacture of each wheel. The hubs provide additional strength and improved wear characteristics to the wheel. In the second manufacturing step, a pair of opposing interlocking hubs are placed in the open mold of a conventional blow molding machine. The parison, which is preferably an elastomer, is then extruded between the two open halves of the mold. The two halves of the mold close and capture the parison between the two interlocking hubs in the mold cavity forming a web which radiates from the central bore of the hubs. The remainder of the parison is inflated to form a tube around the exterior of the hubs.

  • Patent number: 5040915
Abstract: A breakaway mount connects a tool such as a welding torch with a robot or other automated machine. The mount can fully separate and detach from a baseplate in the event of a collision between the tool and the workpiece. The pneumatically operated mount is reassembled with the baseplate in a two-step procedure which allows the operator to move his fingers and hands away from the apparatus to avoid injury when the components are fully assembled. The breakaway mount can include a wrist joint which swivels back and forth in response to a collision between the tool and the workpiece. The apparatus can also be affixed with sensors to detect partial or complete detachment between the mount and the baseplate. The sensors shut down the robot or other automatic machinery in the event of partial or complete detachment. A second series of sensors can also be added to detect the movement in the wrist joint to likewise shut down the machinery.

  • Patent number: 4954683
Abstract: This plasma arc torch includes an improved front end assembly to create an improved gouge path when compared with prior art plasma arc gougers. The front end assembly includes a unique secondary gas nozzle for distribution of the secondary gas in a partial radial blanket up to 300.degree. around the plasma. Conventional nozzles distribute the seondary gas in a total, 360 degree, blanket around the plasma. An improved tip design is believed to develop an enlarged plasma stream to further enhance the gouging process.
