Abstract: Techniques for allowing an application designed to store data for one group of users to store data for a plurality of groups of users include modifying the application to cause the application to indicate a routine to a database server that stores data for the application in a database. The routine provides modifications to queries of the database, which limit access based on the groups to which belong users that cause the queries to be submitted. In response to receiving a query involving the database and caused by a particular user, the database server locates the routine, and, prior to executing the query, modifies the query. Modifying the query includes invoking the routine. The modification to the query thereby limits access of the particular user to data that is associated with the group of users to which the particular user belongs.

Abstract: A handheld computer includes a bar retained in an interior. A first button structure is accessible on an exterior surface of the handheld computer. A member joins to and extends between the bar and the first button structure. The member enables the first button structure to move into an actuated position without undergoing a radial motion about the bar.

The playback system includes a search module that signals a query to a network site, and receives in return a search result. A media player couples to the search module to automatically play back streaming media contained in media files located by the search result.

Abstract: A single secure sign-on gives a user access to authorized Web resources, based on the user's role in the organization that controls the Web resources. The information resources are stored on a protected Web server. A user of a client or browser logs in to the system. A runtime module on the protected server receives the login request and intercepts all other request by the client to use a resource. The runtime module connects to an access server that can determine whether a particular user is authentic and which resources the user is authorized to access. User information is associated with roles and functional groups of an organization to which the user belongs; the roles are associated with access privileges. The access server connects to a registry server that stores information about users, roles, functional groups, resources, and associations among them. The access server and registry server exchange encrypted information that authorized the user to use the resource.
