  • Patent number: 4392682
Abstract: A cargo truck trailer has telescoped box-like top and bottom body portions with mechanism operated from a single control station which will raise and lower the top body portion to provide maximum cargo space that will clear overhead structures such as viaducts along the intended travel route so that a single vehicle trailer becomes useful at maximum capacity over a designated route. The top or roof body portion is guided by ribs or struts of the bottom body portion. The mechanism which raises and lowers the top body portion is housed within the bottom body portion preferably between its outer skin and inner liner. The control station is a single crank which drives gears and chains to simultaneously rotate a plurality of vertical screw rods at the corners and midsection of the body to raise and lower nut members carried by the top body portion.

  • Patent number: 4393412
Abstract: When levels of chrominance signals reproduced from a helical scan video tape recorder are controlled, two types of control signals are generated based on a level of color burst signal of the reproduced chrominance signals. One of the two control signals is responsive to relatively rapid level changes, and the other thereof is responsive to stationary errors based on head-tape contacting pressure changes during one revolution of a rotary video head.

  • Patent number: 4393308
Abstract: A high current electron source with a narrow energy band of the type employed in an electron beam printer has a beam generating system consisting of a cathode and focusing electrodes and an anode with at least one electrode functioning to astigmatically focus at least one electron crossover in the low velocity range. For varying the position and shape of the crossover in a simple manner for adaptation to particular use conditions of the high current electron source, the Wehnelt electrode of the electron source consists of one or more cylinder lenses or of an electrostatic multipole element, or an electromagnetic multipole element is disposed in the plane of a conventional non-ferromagnetic Wehnelt electrode with a circular aperture for the electron beam. By pole reversal of the Wehnelt voltage or of the coil current and by changing the size of the current, the shape and azimuth position of the first crossover in the cathode space can be varied to any configuration.

  • Patent number: 4393378
Abstract: A system for the generation of a light intensity control signal for a video amplifier of a data display device is disclosed which is connected with a video signal line and a pulse generator. When displaying characters composed of horizontal lines and vertical rows of points on a screen, the lines display a higher brightness than the points. • Patent number: 4393496
Abstract: In addition to the overall sum code words, call progress tone sum code words are formed which, in addition to the conference parts, respectively include a different PCM word corresponding to a call progress tone. In the formation of the respective partial sum code words to be transmitted, by subtraction from individual conference components, an overall sum code word or a call progress tone sum code word are selectively taken into consideration depending upon whether a call progress word is to be fed in or not or, respectively, depending upon what call progress tone is concerned.

  • Patent number: 4393129
Abstract: Stress and crack-free development of resist layers or films, for example composed of PMMA, used in production of galvanically generated flat precision parts is achieved. Resist layers having a thickness of at least 100 .mu.m are exposed via electron lithography or x-ray lithography techniques whereby very fine structure patterns having dimensions in the micron and sub-micron range are attained and developed with a developer comprised of a mixture of a material selected from the glycol ether group, a material selected from the primary amine group, a material selected from the aqueous group and a material selected from the azine group. Aspect ratios of 30:1 are achieved without dark errosion. Residual PMMA components remaining after development, as well as the developer itself, are fully removed with a post-development rinsing with water so that no disruptive layer residues remain on the surface which has been uncovered through development.

  • Patent number: 4393295
Abstract: Apparatus and method for engraving with an electron beam such that depressions of different sizes can be generated in the surface of a workpiece and the different sizes of depressions are produced by an electron beam and wherein during periods when depressions are not to be formed the electron beam remains on but is defocused so that it does not form depressions. A modification of the invention provides that at times when the beam is not being used to cut depressions that it is pulsed wherein the short pulses of the beam which engage the work surface do not do any cutting.

  • Patent number: 4392291
Abstract: Disclosed herein is method for assembling a pair of slide fastener stringers each having spaced sections in continuous rows of scoops and an apparatus for the same. The leading edge of the scoop row in the leading stringer is detected by a probe inserted into the guide groove of the binder member for the scoop row. The engagement of the leading edge and the claw of the probe retards the progress of the leading stringer thereby retarding the rotation of the feed roller for the leading stringer while increasing the speed of the rotation of the other feed roller for the trailing stringer, which is connected to the first feed roller through a differential transmission mechanism. After both of the stringers are brought into right alignment for exact engagement in the binder member, the claws disengage from the leading edges of the scoop row in the stringers and come out of the spaced sections. In this condition, the spaced sections in the stringers are detected individually by detecting lever means.

  • Patent number: 4392074
Abstract: A trigger device for electronic switches operating according to piezo-electric principles and having galvanic decoupling between the input control electronics and the controlled electronics switch has a piezo-ignition coupler which is a lamina of piezo-ceramic material having at least two spaced electrodes on one surface thereof and at least two counter electrodes in registry therewith on an opposite side thereof. The respective electrodes in registry form electrode pairs and one pair of electrodes is connected to the control electronics and another pair of electrodes is connected to the trigger electrode of the electronic switch. The lamina has a shape displaying an axis with more than two-fold rotational symmetry and the dimensions of the lamina are selected such that the frequency of an alternating signal supplied to the lamina is matched to the resonant frequency of the lamina at a value between 20 kHz and 500 kHz for inducing a mode of vibration according to the principle of radial oscillation.

  • Patent number: 4391022
Abstract: An automatically locking slider for slide fasteners has a locking member including a piece of resilient strip, preferably made of stainless steel, which is bent into a generally "3" shape having a U-shaped base extending around a transverse spindle of a pull tab, a locking prong extending from one end of the base, and an anchor extending from the other end of the base and terminating in a hook-shaped end hooked with a locking-member retaining nose on a slider's neck. The base is normally urged against the spindle of the pull tab by the resilience of the strip. The hook-shaped end of the anchor is normally urged against the nose by the resilience of the strip and is thereby prevented from being unhooked from the nose. Thus the locking member is held in position on a slider body solely by the resilience of the strip, requiring no bending or deforming of any part of the slider body that would make the slider defective from an aesthetic view.

  • Patent number: RE31297
Abstract: A recirculating sprayer adapted for mounting on a vehicle is improved for use at increased travel speed and for operation in higher wind conditions by angling the solid spray streams forwardly or rearwardly from a direction transverse to the travel direction. The sprays are employed in criss-cross, opposite pairs, with the spray stream patterns of adjacent pairs of spray nozzles abutting or overlapping one another for full coverage of all upstanding weeds or crops in an area traversed by the sprayer. A series of collector mats or panels may be arranged transverse to the travel direction, with sprays trained thereon for contacting each weed twice in its upstanding position once by each spray of a pair; the weeds may also be contacted once more as they are bent forward to pass beneath the panels and a reservoir thereunder. The collector may also be arranged in panels parallel to the travel direction, for increased ease in negotiating sloping terrain.
