  • Patent number: 7722982
Abstract: This invention includes a battery pack having an improved battery retention system for coupling to another device, like a desktop charger. The battery pack, which includes one rechargeable cell and optional circuitry, has an exterior housing that is generally rectangular in cross section. The exterior housing, which includes major faces and intersection seams, has at least two female slots that project inward at an angle that is non-orthogonal to the major faces or intersection seams. These non-orthogonal slots, when coupling to corresponding non-orthogonal rails in the pocket of a battery charger, allow batteries of various sizes to be inserted into a single charger pocket with reliable and consistent electrical connections between the electrical contacts of the pocket and the charging terminals of the battery. Electrical contacts may be disposed within the non-orthogonal slots, thereby improving both the function and aesthetic appearance of the battery pack.

  • Patent number: 6476776
Abstract: A satellite adapted antenna system has at least spaced apart first and second elements (104, 106), the first and second elements (104, 106) having substantially a common first polarization. A third element (108) has a second polarization that is opposite the first polarization of the first element (104). An antenna mode selector system selects between operatively connecting the first and second elements (104, 106) to form a specular antenna and operatively connecting the first and third elements (104, 108) to form a diversity antenna. Each of the first, second and third elements (104, 106, 108) are quadrifilar helix antennas. The first and second elements (104, 106) are quadrifilar helix antenna having right hand circuit polarization, and the third element (108) is a quadrifilar helix antenna having a left hand circuit polarization.

  • Patent number: 6453160
Abstract: A wireless data system (200) and a method (400) of communicating digital data to one or more handheld wireless devices (202) are provided. The method (400) comprise the steps of removing (402) at least one data segment from the digital data to form a first digital data portion (300) and replacing (406) the at least one data segment with an at least one position holder (303, 305) embedded into the first digital data portion. The method further includes forming (409) at least one second digital data portion including the at least one data segment, communicating (413) the first digital data portion (300) to a wireless network (209), and communicating (419) the at least one second digital data portion to a broadcast transmitter (215). The method broadcasts (422) the first digital data portion (300) from the wireless network (209) and broadcasts (425) the at least one second digital data portion from the broadcast transmitter (215).

  • Patent number: 6317087
Abstract: An antenna detent and latching mechanism (300) for coupling to a radiotelephone and mating with a radiotelephone antenna stem (200) is provided. The antenna detent and latching mechanism (300) includes a bottom plate (380) for mounting the mechanism in the radiotelephone, a bearing plate (360) coupled to the bottom plate, a detent follower (373) coupled to the bearing plate (360) and engaging a plurality of detents (366, 368, 370) in the bearing plate (360), and a detent spring (374) coupled to the detent follower (373) and providing force against the detent follower (373). The detent spring (374) is preferably a substantially flat leaf spring. The detent follower (373) preferably has a plurality of detent spring contact surfaces (377, 378). The detent spring (374) may be supplemented with additional detent springs (375).
