Abstract: A two-part adhesive composition having superior adhesive strength at cryogenic temperatures contains a urethane resin composition part and a hardener part. The urethane resin composition part comprises 50 to 99% by weight of a modified polyurethane prepolymer having an epoxy group at each of its respective ends and 1 to 50% by weight of a modified urethane compound having substantially no ether cyanate (NCO) groups and at least two epoxy groups per molecule and a molecular weight of less than 800 daltons. The hardener part is a polyamine containing primary or secondary amine groups. The equivalent ratio of the amine groups of the polyamine to the epoxy groups of the urethane resin composition part is 0.5 to 2.0.

Abstract: A ceramic composite contains one spinel phase and one or more than one oxides phases. The composite is derived from the mixtures of two oxides, A.sub.2 O.sub.3 and BO, with different molar ratio, in which A and B are metallic ions of three and two valences respectively. The oxides are heated at a high temperature to form a composite containing a spinel and residual oxides. The formed spinel and residual oxides also undergo densification under high temperature. After the treatment at high temperature, not only the spinel is formed but also the composite is densified. The performance of the composite is superior in its strength, toughness and high-temperature stability.
Abstract: Several Radial Mode Coriolis mass flow rate meter geometries and electronic circuits are described that may be made to be sensitive to pressure or density changes. In one embodiment, the meter comprises: (1) a flow conduit for containing a fluid having a physical characteristic, the fluid adapted to flow in the conduit at an unknown rate, (2) a drive circuit for creating a vibration in the flow conduit, the fluid altering the vibration as a function of the physical characteristic and the flow rate, (3) a detector circuit for measuring the altered vibration at a working point and producing a signal representing an uncompensated mass flow rate of the fluid and (4) a computation circuit for calculating a compensated mass flow rate of the fluid proportional to the uncompensated rate by 1/.OMEGA.1.sup.n, where .OMEGA.1 is a driven natural frequency of the flow conduit and n is a number chosen as a function of the working point, the compensated rate thereby reduced of effects of the physical characteristic.
Abstract: A method for the qualitative or quantitative determination of the deleterious agent in a substantially non-aqueous medium, such as an oil. The method involves using a non-azo 1,8-naphthalimide dye for the detection or quantitation of the total hydrogen ion activity in a substantially non-aqueous medium. The method includes the steps of: Mixing the dye with the substantially non-aqueous medium, which may or may not contain any hydrogen ion, to form a mixture; irradiating the mixture with a fluorescent light sufficient to cause the mixture to emit a detectable fluorescent emission spectrum; detecting the fluorescent emission spectrum of the mixture; and comparing the detected fluorescent emission spectrum with standard fluorescent emission spectra generated by reacting the dye with different known hydrogen ion activities, wherein differences between the fluorescent emission spectra compared are dependent upon the presence or levels of the hydrogen ion activity present in the mixture.

Abstract: A method for synthesizing quinone from an aromatic compound is developed that employs a paired electro-oxidation method and a undivided electrochemical cell. The electrolyte solution is a combination of an aromatic solution (aqueous or nonaqueous) and a redox mediator solution, which can be V.sup.5+ /V.sup.4+, Fe.sup.3+ /Fe.sup.2+, or Cu.sup.2+ /Cu.sup.+, in an undivided electrochemical cell. The electrolyte reaction is conducted by bubbling oxygen into the bottom of the cathode, then the oxygen is reduced to hydrogen peroxide (H.sub.2 O.sub.2). Simultaneously, at the anode surface, lower valence state ions can be oxidized to higher valence states. Hydrogen peroxide then oxidizes the rest of the low valence state ions to form high valence ions, OH-free radicals, and combinations of both. These ions and radicals then react with the aromatic compound in the solution and form the resultant product, quinone.
Abstract: Disclosed is a protocol for transmitting data in a towed hydrophone streamer, including a transmission method and a data frame. The method comprises the steps of (1) receiving a portion of the data frame into a data transmission circuit within a particular module of the streamer, the portion of the data frame representing telemetry data derived from an adjacent module, the transmission circuit transmitting the portion of the data frame to a desired destination, (2) receiving an end-of-data signal into the transmission circuit, the end-of-data signal commanding the transmission circuit to add telemetry data derived from the particular module to the portion of the data frame and (3) adding the data derived from the particular module to the portion of the data frame, the data frame thereby transmitted to the destination and including the data derived from the particular module, the telemetry data ordered within the frame as a function of an order of modules within the streamer.

Abstract: A drink and a concentrate containing alcohol-precipitated mucilaginous polysaccharides from aloe vera leaves and its preparation is disclosed. Aloe vera mucilaginous polysaccharides, including acemannan, are precipitated from aloe vera juice and are mixed with a preservative, an antioxidant, a sweetener, and a flavorant to produce a palatable aloe vera beverage, carbonated or noncarbonated.
Abstract: Acemannan has been shown to be effective in treating a number of conditions where the principal mechanism of resolution or cure requires intervention by the patient's immune system. Acemannan has direct stimulatory effects on the immune system. Methods for treating cancer, viral diseases, respiratory and immune regulatory diseases, inflammations, infections and infestations by administering an acetylated mannan derivative, such as acemannan derived from aloe, are described. The method finds use in tissue cultures, animals and plants.

Abstract: A flow meter apparatus for measuring the mass flow rate of a fluid using the Coriolis principle. A single straight flow conduit is employed which is vibrated in a radial-mode of vibration. Coriolis forces are thereby produced along the walls of the flow conduits which deform the conduits cross-sectional shape as a function of mass flow rate. Additional embodiments are disclosed employing radial vibration of selected portions of the flow conduit walls.
