  • Patent number: 7982463
Abstract: In one aspect an induction resistivity tool incorporated into a downhole tool string comprises an outer wall of a downhole component comprising an outer diameter and at least one induction transmitter assembly disposed along the outer diameter. The at least one transmitter assembly comprises at least one induction transmitter coil wound about at least one core. The at least one transmitter coil is adapted to project an induction signal outward from the outer wall when the at least one transmitter coil is carrying an electrical current. The transmitter assembly is adapted to create electromagnetic fields that originate the induction signal from outside the outer wall and substantially prevent the signal from entering the outer wall.

  • Patent number: 7980331
Abstract: A drill string component includes a downhole power assembly and a center mandrel with a through-bore adapted to accommodate a flow of drilling fluid. The downhole power assembly includes a tubular battery cage disposed around the center mandrel. At least one battery is disposed in at least one bay formed in the tubular battery cage and a tubular sleeve is adapted to slide over and cover the tubular battery cage.

  • Patent number: 7762353
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention, a downhole tool string component comprises a fluid passageway formed between a first and second end. A valve mechanism is disposed within the fluid passageway adapted to substantially cyclically build-up and release pressure within the fluid passageway such that a pressure build-up results in radial expansion of at least a portion of the fluid passageway and wherein a pressure release results in a contraction of the portion of the fluid passageway. The valve mechanism disposed within the fluid passageway comprises a spring. Expansion and contraction of the portion of the fluid passageway varies a weight loaded to a drill bit disposed at a drilling end of the drill string.

  • Patent number: 7748450
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automating control, remotely monitoring, and controlling a gas extraction assembly, coupled to a gas pipeline section. The gas extraction assembly may be used to increase gas volume, and/or overall gas flow from productive low or high pressure wells, as well as “wake-up” or recover lowered production from depleting wells. Two features of the gas extraction assembly of the present invention is the capability of creating substantial differential pressure, along with the ability to create substantial vacuum pressure on the suction inlet.

  • Patent number: 7721802
Abstract: A sensor used to determine the height of one or more fluids in a fluid column and to determine a location of an interface or boundary between a plurality of fluids in a fluid column is disclosed. The sensor includes a plurality of sensing elements comprising a capacitor and other components, such as resistors and inductors. The sensor also includes an oscillator that alters a frequency of an electrical current applied to the sensor, from which the dielectric constant of the fluid in which each sensing element is disposed can be determined. Methods of using such a sensor to determine the relative heights of various fluids in a fluid column are disclosed. In particular, methods of using embodiments of the invention in a well, such as water and petroleum wells, are described.

  • Patent number: 7573365
Abstract: A system and method for a resistor for detecting the relative level of moisture content in a humid environment. The resistor has a first layer of conductive material on a top surface of a substrate having a bend. The conductive material is exposed to atmospheric conditions. The first layer of conductive material has a static condition moisture content and a measurable electrical resistance that changes predictably when the amount of moisture content in contact with the first layer of conductive material changes from the static condition. The change of resistance of the first layer of conductive material corresponds to a change in the moisture content in contact with the first layer of electrically conductive material.

  • Patent number: 7060226
Abstract: The pipette tip packaging and transfer system comprises a plurality of receiving plates and a transfer member. Each receiving plate includes a plurality of openings for receiving pipette tips in a substantially vertical alignment at a medial position thereof. The loaded receiving plates can be stacked one atop of another with the pipette tips contained within a first receiving plate being received in the top openings of the aligned pipette tips contained within the underlying receiving plate of the stack. The transfer member has a plurality of projections extending from the bottom surface of the transfer member at positions that correspond to the location of the openings of the receiving plate. The projections are configured and arranged to extend into the top openings of the pipette tips on the upper-most receiving plate and maintain the pipette tips in a fixed and substantially perpendicular alignment in relation to the transfer member and receiving plate.
