    Abstract: The invention is a lift for the gate of a truck, and especially a gate at the side of the truck. An L-shaped lift arm has base bars pivotally connected to an actuator mechanism beneath the bed of a truck. These arms swing to the side of the truck when extended and a lift bar on the base bars extends therefrom to engage the outside of a truck gate and the lift bar is angled from the base bars to push the gate upwardly to its closed position when the base bars are rotated to their extended position. The actuator mechanism includes two chain connected sprockets: a smaller sprocket at the base bar pivot and a larger sprocket connecting with the piston of a cylinder. The sprocket pitch diameter ratios are such that rotation of approximately 90.degree. by the larger sprocket will effect an 180.degree. rotation of the smaller sprocket, permitting the lift arm to swing from a fully retracted position underneath the body of the truck to a fully extended position where the lift bar closes the gate.

    Abstract: A series of mesh layers, approximating a loosely woven cloth, are placed between successive adjacent, parallel tubular coils or bends through which a liquid flows. The assembly of coils and mesh layers is compressed to produce a clamping contact between the mesh and each of two opposed coils, as well as compressing the mesh together, both within and outside the areas of the coils. The mesh which intersects an end of the coil is split, so that the mesh may lie on both sides of the coil at that position. A perforated plate may be placed at each end of the mesh and coil assembly, with a screen interposed, in order to maintain the mesh and coils in a clamped condition. The perforated plates may be spot welded to the inside of a housing, the parts of which are also compressed against the mesh and coil assembly. The compression of the mesh against the coils not only provides a greater area of contact of the fibers, strands, wires, etc., of the mesh, but also produces a clamping or pressure contact.

    Abstract: In conditioning pulp, such as ore particles carried by or in suspension in water, or other particles, conditioning prior to flotation involves the addition of one or more reagents to the pulp or the like. By this invention, an agitation and pumping zone, spaced from the bottom of the tank in which the operation is carried out, pumps pulp outwardly in swirling, circumferential streams. A conditioning reagent is supplied to the active area of the pumping zone, such as the center of the zone. The operation may be enhanced by using a pair of pumping zones, one above the other, as well as intercepting the streams of pulp radially outwardly of the pumping zones, as by a stabilizer having radially extending vanes.

    Abstract: A fine mesh, cylindrical screen is mounted on a cylindrical support lengthwise of a ditch and rotated about its axis. The screen is over half submerged, such as leaving 30% of its area above the normal water level. The rotating screen, at its downstream end, abuts the pipe through which the water flows to a pump for supplying the sprinklers.As the screen rides up out of the water, the sediment clings to it. At the downstream end is a nozzle which discharges a jet of water to move the sediment longitudinally and to a position of engagement with a jet of water from a second nozzle spaced both longitudinally and circumferentially from the first nozzle. These nozzles are included in a series of nozzles which are similarly spaced to the upstream end, with the jet from the last nozzle moving the collected sediment to a position engageable by a suction nozzle just before the screen reenters the water.A special dam downstream from the screen normally insures that the water at the screen will be at the desired level.

    Abstract: A movable member of a grille or shutter is slidable with respect to a stationary member through tongue and groove or other slidable connections, between a fully open and a fully closed position. Both the movable member and the stationary member are provided with corresponding cross bars which are spaced both vertically and equally. Facing upright rails, such as at the center, of the movable member and fixed member are provided with opposed grooves, each for reception of a vertically placed bar magnet. The magnets are placed with their opposite poles facing each other, so that the magnets will attract, rather than repel. Preferably, the closed position of the movable member is the upper position, and the magnets are directly opposite each other in this position.

    Abstract: A series of upright, longitudinally extending baffles are supported in parallel array, with the transverse or secondary baffles being formed by twisting out of the webs of the primary baffles an area initially separated by slots which leave a stem connecting the secondary baffle with the web at two opposed positions, normally the top and bottom. When the secondary baffle is twisted, each of the webs is twisted, as to 90.degree., to support the secondary baffle transversely to the primary baffles. Normally, the secondary baffles extend the same distance to each side of the corresponding primary baffle. The secondary baffles of one primary baffle are normally interspaced with the secondary baffles of the adjacent primary baffles.

A depending passage at the lower front of the device has an air outlet which discharges air toward the ventilator intake. An adjustment baffle having a forwardly slanted lower flange is moved in the outlet between a position of maximum flow and a position of no flow. Louvers in the front wall of the chamber above the passage are adjustable, so that different amounts of fresh air may flow into the room in which the cooking equipment is placed.

    Abstract: The coping is mounted atop the gutter and each is formed of stainless steel, with the top surfaces being sandblasted to prevent slipperiness, particularly when wet. The gutter, which carries water overflowing and draining through slots in the coping, is also used as a form for pouring the concrete walls of the pool. The gutter provides not only check points for transit leveling, but also an upper rear flange for use in leveling the top of the concrete when poured.The rear of the coping is supported by the gutter, while the depending front wall of the coping is supported by an upwardly extending front wall of the gutter, at an outward offset of each, through a series of special, fine adjustment connecting devices. The upstanding front nose of the coping determines the level at which water will overflow, while the various sections of the coping may be adjusted through the fine adjustment devices, to correspond with the water level, thereby providing a highly accurate level setting for the rim.

    Abstract: A purifier which includes round and spiral labyrinth passages in heat exchange relationship with similar passages, the incoming passages leading to and the outgoing passages leading from a container for gettering material heated by electrical heaters. The circumferential walls of the round passages are attached together by angular offsets in opposed positions, preferably at about 45.degree.. The spiral passages are formed by a circumferentially spiral plate with an end wall at each end of each passage. The plates may overhang the end walls, so that the plates can be melted back to fuse with the end walls. Also, the heat applied during such melting and fusion heats the end plates sufficiently to be readily bent into a spiral. A second container for gettering material may be located, with or without heating, along the outward path of the heated gases where the temperature will correspond to a lower temperature for further reaction of the gases with a gettering material.

A cleaning brush engages the underside of the lower reach of the screen, the brush rotating in a direction opposite to the movement of the screen, while a roller or rod supports the screen just below the brush. The brush may be driven directly from a motor and speed reducer, with a belt drive to an upper pulley producing further speed reduction, or a speed reduction drive between the motor and the brush with a belt or chain drive to the upper roller may be utilized.The lower roller for the screen has a fixed center surmounted by a plastic or rubber bushing about which a cylinder of the lower roller rotates.A weir directs water onto the screen, the weir including a transverse partition mounted in the ditch and having a rectangular slot therein.

A gusset plate extends rearwardly from a reinforcement for the rear wall and may be moved upwardly and downwardly to adjust the transverse level. Each gusset plate, after final adjustment, is attached to a stake. The jacks and the gusset plates are adapted to be embedded in the concrete which forms the wall of the pool, preferably poured in layers by the "Gunite" method, and serve as reinforcements for the concrete.

    Abstract: A carriage is driven from the back to the front of the inside of a trailer, either by rotating nozzles which discharge wash water against the inside of the trailer or by an electric motor. The carriage is guided by two laterally spaced rollers on each side. A hose supplying the wash water and later the rinse water, to the nozzles on the carriage, unwinds from a reel while the carriage is driven into the trailer, but the reel is turned by a motor to pull the carriage rearwardly of and out of the trailer. The trailer rests on an inclined ramp, with the rear edges abutting resilient pads for sealing purposes, the pads being placed around an opening in a partition in the building in which the carriage is housed. A wash tank receives liquid draining from the inside of the trailer, both wash water and rinse water, while a boiler heats the wash water.
