  • Patent number: 4475022
Abstract: This is a multi-purpose, low-profile desk accessory in which a horizontally oriented flat base sheet is formed with upstanding walls which define a plurality of shallow storage wells, including one for the storage for a roll of tape which is horizontally oriented, and another for the storage of a flat stack of unbound note paper. Suitable means are provided for twisting the tape 90.degree. as it comes off the tape roll. Above these shallow storage wells are upper decks which provide additional storage space, some of which is specifically dedicated to such office implements as a ring-bound calendar, and possibly an ash tray or card file. Alongside the shallow lower level and upper level storage facilities is an elevated structure which includes deep wells for the storage of paper clips and similar desk implements, and another deep well for storing elongated writing instruments such as pens and pencils in a horizontal attitude.

  • Patent number: 4433590
Abstract: An anti-backlash nut assembly is disclosed for longitudinal movement along a screw which has an external thread thereon, in response to relative rotational movement between the nut assembly and the screw. The assembly includes a first nut part having an internal thread complementary to the external thread of the screw, and a second nut part also having an internal thread complementary to the external thread of the screw. A coil spring is interconnected between the first and second nut parts for applying torque thereto and rotatably biasing the nut parts together to eliminate backlash therebetween and improve the positional accuracy of the nut assembly along the screw. A cylindrical collar is sandwiched between a pair of opposed portions of the nut parts and surrounds the coil spring. With this structural combination, the anti-backlash nut assembly can be adjustably preloaded by relatively rotating the nut parts to selectively preload the coil spring to a desired torque.

  • Patent number: 4430632
Abstract: A coupling mechanism is disclosed for coaxially connecting a pair of connectable components, such as a pair of transducer assemblies each having a stator. A coupling ring is carried by one stator and engageable with the other for drawing the stators together axially in response to relative rotation of the coupling ring. First friction mechanism between the stators prevent relative rotation between the stators after the stators are aligned angularly to align the electrical zeros thereof. Second friction mechanism of lesser coefficient of friction between the coupling ring and the one stator permit relative rotation therebetween whereby the stators can be finally coupled by further rotation of the coupling member while the first friction means maintains the stators in zero electrical alignment. Subsequently, locking washers are fastened between the coupling ring and stators to permanently lock the stators in relative aligned position.

  • Patent number: 4428659
Abstract: An apparatus and method in which a coating is wetted with a solvent to initiate dissolution of soluble coating portions and the hydraulic pressure of the solvent at the surface of the coating is repeatedly increased and decreased to assist in the dissolution of the soluble coating portions. A brush with an array of bristles reciprocating in a path perpendicular to the coating may be utilized to produce the increasing and decreasing hydraulic pressure. Also, the coating may be immersed in the solvent to wet it and to initiate dissolution of the soluble coating portions.

  • Patent number: 4424595
Abstract: A thumbless boxing glove is disclosed with a mitt section defined by a soft padded back portion and a palm portion. The back portion and palm portion define an inner cavity for receiving the entire hand of a boxer. A flexible strap is secured within the inner cavity for restricting movement of a boxer's thumb to a position for proper clenching about the boxer's fist. The palm portion is cut away to provide a longitudinally extending opening theein. Lacings bridge the opening and connect the margins thereof for tightening the glove about the boxer's hand. The lacings are secured to the soft padded back portion at a point beyond the palm portion to draw the back portion into a fist conformation upon tightening the lacings.

  • Patent number: 4421145
Abstract: Two embodiments of devices are disclosed for forming eyelets and/or twists in wire. Both embodiments are self-contained tools and include relatively rotatable outer sleeves and inner cores for completely encapsulating and holding lengths of wire. In one embodiment, the wire can be formed with a closed loop and tight wraps about the length of wire inwardly of the closed loop while the length of wire is held by the device and the closed loop is rotated relative thereto. In the other embodiment, the wire can be formed with a closed loop, followed by helical twists, and then tightly wrapped inwardly of the helical twists as the closed loop is continuously rotated relative to the device while the length of wire is encapsulated and held thereby.

  • Patent number: 4412565
Abstract: A hand tool is disclosed for straightening wire and includes three elongated rod-like wire straightening members each having a plurality of wire engaging circular ridges spaced longitudinally of the respective straightener member. Link means interconnects the wire straightener members at the ends thereof for pivotal movement relative to the longitudinal axes thereof, between an open position and a closed position. The wire straightener members in the closed position define a longitudinal passageway between the circular wire engaging ridges for receiving a wire and straightening the wire in response to relative longitudinal movement of the wire in the passageway as pressure is applied exteriorly of the wire straightener members. The circular ridges on each wire straightener member are spaced and located to be disposed in gaps between the circular ridges of each other wire straightener member.
