Patent number: 7503264Abstract: A side bearing assembly for a railway vehicle includes a cage, a cap coupled to and moveable relative to the cage, and an insulator disposed between the cage and the cap. The railway vehicle includes a bolster extending laterally and a car body disposed on the bolster. The cage is attached to the bolster and the cap supports a portion of the car body such that the side bearing assembly is disposed between the bolster and the car body to dampen lateral pivoting of the car body relative to the bolster. The insulator is formed of microcellular polyurethane for resiliently deforming and storing energy during compressive movement between the car body and the bolster through a range of temperatures between ?40° C. and 80 ° C. Microcellular polyurethane maintains flexibility at this temperature range such that the side bearing assembly maintains its ability to dampen lateral pivoting through this temperature range.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2006Date of Patent: March 17, 2009Assignee: BASF CorporationInventors: Nathaniel L. Patent number: 7442441Abstract: The subject invention discloses a composite structure and a resin component for use in the composite structure. The composite structure includes a first layer, comprising a styrenated unsaturated polyester, and a second layer. The first layer is a show surface of the composite structure. The second layer includes the reaction product of the resin component and an isocyanate component. The resin component includes an isocyanate-reactive component, an amine-based catalyst, and a temperature-activated catalyst that is different from the amine-based catalyst. The amine-based catalyst is active at ambient temperature for initiating an exothermic reaction between the isocyanate component and the resin component thereby establishing a reaction temperature greater than the ambient temperature. The temperature-activated catalyst is active at the reaction temperature for completing a cure of the isocyanate component with the resin component.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2004Date of Patent: October 28, 2008Assignee: BASF CorporationInventors: Calvin T. Patent number: 7106026Abstract: An energy system is formed of a plurality of battery cells, and has an application associated therewith that draws power from the energy system, thereby creating a load profile that is presented to the energy system. As the application is being used, voltage and current measurements are taken at a predetermined rate, and stored in a history table to create a series of time-based measurements. The measurements stored in the history table are then processed to produce an energy spectra and a power spectra corresponding to the load profile presented to the energy system by the application. A charging strategy in accordance with this energy spectra and power spectra is then defined and used to charge the energy system appropriately.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2003Date of Patent: September 12, 2006Assignee: Enerdel, Inc.Inventor: Stephen W.
