  • Patent number: 4044413
Abstract: A handable clamp such as a vice grip, carrying a pair of interlocking arcuate-faced extension jaws, one of which is laterally projecting on both sides of clamp jaws and formed with parallel-sided tongues and guide slots spaced apart by aliquot distances, whereby selection of a pair of such walls as guides for saw blade will enable severance of chosen arc-length of clamped ring. The thus-matching butt-ends of the ring can then be secured together to form a ring of smaller size. The projecting jaw tongue and slot pattern is reproduced with indicia on associated reference surface, such as a decal, to indicate position of particular pairs of cuts corresponding to chosen arc length.

  • Patent number: 3986433
Abstract: A programmable machine for automatically cutting and/or resurfacing a selected arcuate pattern upon either a convex or concave lap, particularly such laps as may then be used for forming and polishing opthalmic lenses. A lap positioning unit and a cutter positioning unit are located respectively on adjacent upright and horizontal supports so as to bring the lap and cutter into mutual engagement, each unit initially being longitudinally adjustable from a respective pivot point by a selected amount so as to determine the particular arcuate curvature obtained, which curvatures jointly form the two-dimentional arcuate pattern chosen for the lap face. In operation, the lap is oscillated vertically and a rotary milling cutter is driven back and forth transverse thereto.

  • Patent number: 3969836
Abstract: Combined ornamental and functional buckle such as attachable to belt, shoulder or pack strap, etc. is characterized by front peripheral, channel-forming frame surrounding and edge-overlying an outwardly convex, rectangular face which thus forms a backing surface for a generally planar, inserted display card or panel having its marginal area thus held by the frame. The indicia-bearing panel is typically like a plastic ID card having sufficient flexibility and resilience to be self-anchoring when slid edge-wise into the channel where it may flex opposite to the curvature of the backing surface. A downturned lip of the frame partially overhangs the entry slot so as to form an end abutment for the trailing edge of the panel when completely inserted. Alternate construction of two-piece buckle provides flat-sided keeper for locking insertion at entry end so as to retain both backing plate and display panel held together in the frame, the backing plate in this case not necessarily being curved.

  • Patent number: 3966127
Abstract: Method and apparatus which combines centrifugal and rotary-abrasive forces for rupturing air-carried granular material, such as cereal grain, which is then reduced to a desired (variable) screen size or powder. Such product may be as finely pulverized as flour or may simply consist of mixed grains which are reduced to a uniform particle size suitable for pelletized animal feed. Inorganic material such as particles of talc, clay, kaolins, earth pigments, etc. can be similarly processed. Power driven, hollow, cylindrical rotor has circumferential series of axially directed, radial outlets which permit easy passage therethrough of the axial granular flowstream to a surrounding channel or raceway formed by a tubular screen spaced radially outward from the rotor outlets.

  • Patent number: 3964281
Abstract: Double cylinder door lock which operates a ceiling- and/or floor-socketed lock bolt which can be added to inner face of already hanging door. Either or both operating cylinders can be key-operated pin tumblers.

  • Patent number: 3962832
Abstract: A chuck assembly particlarly useful to position a lap or lens blank at the end of an oscillatory spindle for opthalmic lens grinding; comprises an opposing pair of jaws, one of which is fixed and the other a loosely hanging plate, laterally and longitudinally tiltable between engage and disengage positions by selective action of a fluid-operated piston having a conic contact head which distally abuts the jaw plate for leveraged closing fulcrumed against a workpiece-adjacent edge, in opposition to resilient means biased to hold the jaw open.

  • Patent number: 3948774
Abstract: Process and apparatus for continuously obtaining separate outflows of pure water and sterile sludge when starting with various aqueous slurries containing organic or oxidizable contaminants (as exemplified by domestic sewage or industrial waste) and first treating the flowing mixture with sulfur dioxide and iron under conditions of closely controlled acidity and in the absence of oxygen. The invention provides a multiple-stage, closed, operating system, a primary segment of which is thus characterized by a self-contained, continuously recycling oxygen-free gaseous flow comprising sulfur dioxide gas which moves through an iron reaction bed concurrent with the contaminant stream.

  • Patent number: 3945654
Abstract: Provides an annular frame for attachment to the outer end of a circle of soft jaws carried by a radially adjustable chuck of a rotary machining assembly, whereby in spite of looseness or misalignment of the chuck jaws, their soft jaws can then be shaped to hold a subsequent workpiece in absolute alignment with the spindle. Frame has number of movable attachment arms corresponding to the number of jaws, which arms are adjustable along respective radial or arcuate guideways so as to engage the circle of soft jaws when opened to different circumferences. When each arm has two adjustable frame-attachment points, annulus is thereby self-centering. For use with (radially slidable) arms having single frame-attachment point, auxilliary centering device is provided.

  • Patent number: 3943313
Abstract: Two-piece assembly fixed to inner forward margin of driver's door of vehicle so as to position a horizontal support arm generally parallel to and spaced from auto dashboard, with a terminal abutment arm carried normally overlying the face of the pull knob of headlight pull-push switch-rod when retracted to its (OFF) position. Abutment arm is pivoted or spring-loaded for manual retraction to disengaged position which is automatically restored upon door opening, so that subsequent closing of door will cause abutment arm to axially contact outdrawn switch-rod and press it back to light-off position.
