  • Patent number: 4524353
Abstract: Line patterning apparatus for use with a vector generator comprises a memory storing a plurality of addressable line pattern bit strings. Each string comprises a series of ones and zeros defining a predetermined pattern of dots and/or dashes. Associated with each pattern string is a pattern restart string defining the length of the pattern. The bits of an addressed pattern string and the associated pattern restart string are serially provided by the memory in response to an addressing counter. The bits of the pattern string are utilized for video inhibition to superimpose the pattern on a vector being generated. The bits of the pattern restart string are utilized to clear the counter when a preset restart bit is encountered in the string by the counter.

  • Patent number: 4519252
Abstract: An acoustic sensor with ambient pressure and temperature compensation having a photoelastic element positioned between a diaphragm and a support beam. Thin layers of oil between the photoelastic material and both the diaphragm and support beam prevent surface stress of the photoelastic element due to slowly varying pressures while surface stresses are caused thereon by relatively rapid pressure variations.

  • Patent number: 4517749
Abstract: A viscous dampened sensitive pendulum carries a generally upwardly directed light source for indicating the gravity vertical. The sensitive pendulum is carried for two degrees of pivotal freedom by flexural pivots which are biased for operation at an error free or hysteresis free zero spring rate for small pivotal deflections. A drive pendulum coupled through the flexural pivots to the sensitive pendulum maintains a small pivotal deflection so that error free, zero spring rate, operation is achieved.

  • Patent number: 4518857
Abstract: A pressure and temperature compensated acoustic transducer utilizing a pressure sensitive birefringent element coupled between a flexible diaphragm sealing the transducer and an internal variable rigid diaphragm that forms two internal chambers. Relatively rapid variation in pressure applied to the birefrigent element cause fluctuations in the phase difference between orthogonal components of a polarized light beam traversing the photo-elastic material. Detections of this phase difference variation provides signals representative of incident acoustic signals. Provision for the transfer of liquid filling the chambers permits the equalization between the two chambers of slowly varying internal pressures caused by changes in external ambient pressure and temperature.

  • Patent number: 4517567
Abstract: The radar trigger and pretrigger generator determines the inherent component time delay through the radar modulator and transmitter during a first cycle of operation. During the next cycle of operation a pretrigger pulse is generated after a time corresponding to the previously measured delay and a trigger pulse is generated after a time corresponding to an operator selectable delay. The trigger pulse is used to trigger the radar modulator, which in effect, permits the operator to control the elapsed time between pretrigger pulse and transmitter firing in a fashion which is completely independent of circuit delay variances through the radar modulator and transmitter.

  • Patent number: 4516861
Abstract: A presettable counter and a substantially identical counter both slaved to a crystal-controlled clock oscillator form a programmable slip counter for providing transition signals with a time interval therebetween in accordance with a coarse delay signal preset into the presettable counter. A programmable logic delay line responsive to a fine delay signal delays one of the transitions so as to impart a precise delay interval between the delayed transition signal and the other transition signal.

  • Patent number: 4516837
Abstract: An optical 1.times.N switch uses a polarizing beam splitter cube and a reflector to separate an arbitrarily polarized incident light beam into polarized components which propagate along parallel paths. A polarization rotator is positioned in the path of the reflected component to rotate the plane of polarization of the light beam component propagating therealong to be coplanar with that of the undeviated light beam in the parallel path. The two beams are simultaneously or individually deflected by selectively activating the electrodes of a liquid crystal nematic reflector/transmitter array confined between prismatic bodies to emerge at one or more of a plurality of desired outputs. In a second embodiment, a second polarization rotator and polarizing beam combiner assembly re-establishes the initial polarization and the beams are thereby combined to emerge from one or more selected output terminals as an arbitrarily polarized light beam.

  • Patent number: 4513025
Abstract: A single particle penetration phosphor employs La.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb particles as a core particle having a thin layer of La.sub.2 O.sub.2 SO.sub.4 :Tb formed thereon by oxidation to provide a barrier which must be penetrated by excitation electrons to produce narrow bandwidth green spectral emission from the particle. The thin barrier is in turn coated by a layer of YVO.sub.4 :Eu particles which produce narrow bandwidth red spectral emission upon electron excitation. The barrier layer increases the voltage turn on characteristic of the green carrier host thereby causing the electron irradiated phosphor to radiate in the red spectrum for low voltages and in the green spectrum for higher voltages. Additionally, methods are disclosed for synthesizing the above single particle penetration phosphor.

  • Patent number: 4510496
Abstract: A docking system for positioning a vehicle relative to a selective location employs a baseband communication link between the vehicle and the selected location. Transmitters located at specific points at the selective location are activated upon command from the docking vehicle and synchronized with reference signals radiated therefrom. Time delays between the arrival of each signal radiated by the transmitter and the initiation of a reference signal are determined to establish measures to the different points at the selected location. These measures are then processed to provide relative positioning information.

  • Patent number: 4509045
Abstract: A flat panel display system for use with AC plasma panels in which addressing signals for an AC plasma panel display line is taken from a voltage divider comprised of two photoresistors, a coupling photoresistor and a decoupling photoresistor. Addressing pulses are coupled to the coupling photoresistor and sustaining voltage signals are coupled to the AC line via a capacitor which shunts the decoupling photoresistor. The coupling and decoupling photoresistors are illuminated in turn. The decoupling photoresistors, will upon illumination accelerate the decay of voltages appearing across the coupling photoresistor and on the AC plasma panel display line.

  • Patent number: 4499656
Abstract: A method of fabricating gallium arsenide devices in which contact isolation is provided by a deep mesa step structure. Step coverage of deposited conductive films is facilitated by preferential orientation of the non-centrosymmetric crystal substrate and wet anisotropic etching that provides a sloped step. Problems of fine line definition of the Schottky anode contact in the photolithographic process are addressed by a two-step exposure of a single layer of thick photoresist followed by a chlorobenzene soak prior to development that ensures a retrograde resist profile needed for good lift-off of undesired evaporated metal. Mesas as deep as 7 .mu.m have been obtained, which permit the fabrication of monolithic planar mixer millimeter-wave diodes with low series resistance and reduced parasitic capacitance.

  • Patent number: 4499473
Abstract: An improved dome antenna system wherein compensation for cross polarized signal components in a received difference pattern of the feed array of the system is accomplished with a second array cross polarized to the feed array. This second array is density tapered to establish an aperture distribution function that is substantially equal to the aperture distribution function of the feed array. Weighting factors, programmed as a function of the boresight scan angle, are applied to the output signals of this second array and the weighted signals are subtracted from the difference signals of the feed array.
