Abstract: A method of determining an Ethernet LAN switch topology including the steps of a) establishing a communications link between a network management server and a switch in an Ethernet LAN, thereby defining the switch as a root switch, b) identifying each of a plurality of switches attached to the Ethernet LAN, the each of the plurality of switches includes at least one identifiable port, c) generating a mapping of each of the switches, the mapping including a list for each of the ports of the switches that each of the ports sees, d) eliminating from the mapping each upwardly looking one of the ports, e) identifying in the mapping at least one leaf connected to at least one of the ports, f) maintaining in a topological mapping at least one relationship between the leaves and the ports connected to the leaves, g) eliminating from the list for each of the ports each of the leaves that each of the ports sees, and h) repeating steps e)-g) until all of the leaves are identified.
Abstract: A method for detecting leaks in an ATM network, the method including the steps of a) creating an entity interconnection map including mappings of port interconnections among a plurality of network nodes, the plurality of network nodes includes a plurality of network endpoints and at least one network switch, b) creating an endpoint map including at least one endpoint mapping of at least one port to at least one virtual identifier for at least one of the network endpoints and a leak indicator for the at least one network endpoint indicating that the network endpoint is either of a transmitting endpoint and a receiving endpoint, c) creating a switch map including at least one switch mapping of at least one port and virtual identifier grouping to at least one other port and virtual identifier grouping for the at least one network switch, d) initializing a leak indicator for each of the endpoint mappings and the switch mappings to indicate a leak condition, e) traversing a virtual channel connection from each tra
Abstract: A method for automatically connecting a DHCP endpoint to a VLAN in an ATM network having a switch operative to provide LAN emulation for a plurality of non-ATM endpoints, the method including the steps of maintaining a LEC for the VLAN in the absence of any request by any of the endpoints to communicate via the VLAN, the LEC having been previously established for the VLAN, connecting the DHCP endpoint to a port on the switch, determining a predefined association between the VLAN and either the address of the port or the network address of the DHCP endpoint, and mapping either the network address of the DHCP endpoint or the address of the port to the LEC for communication via the VLAN.
Abstract: A method for optimizing the detection of a change in MIB information, the method including the steps of creating a MIB information request, sending the request to a SNMP agent, receiving a first response to the request from the SNMP agent, wherein the first response includes MIB information encoded as a byte array, and comparing the first response byte array to a comparison byte array to determine a difference therebetween.

Abstract: A single voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) running at a closed loop controlled fundamental frequency whereby the harmonic products generated by the VCO are used for both transmission and reception. The use of a single VCO and associated supporting circuitry for both transmit and receive portions of the circuit serves to reduce the cost of the transceiver. The radio transceiver comprises a single synthesized oscillator having high harmonic content. The frequency conversions in the receiver make use of the harmonic frequency components of the same oscillator used in performing modulation during transmission.
Abstract: A novel inductor termed a suspended printed inductor (SPI) and an LC-type printed filter constructed using the suspended printed inductor is disclosed. The LC-type suspended printed filter is formed over any suitable substrate material, such as a dielectric substrate, with greatly reduced effects on filter performance due to the characteristics of the material. SPIs are characterized by the absence of a ground plane. A ground plane may physically still exist but it is located at a sufficient distance form the printed circuit board such that the distance can be considered virtual infinity from an RF circuit perspective. A number of different types of inductors can be fashioned as a suspended printed type inductor, including serpentine line inductors or transmission line inductors. The suspended printed inductor can be utilized to construct numerous types of filters such as low pass, high pass, band pass, band stop or any combination thereof.
