Abstract: The movement of a catheter through a medium, which may be living tissue such as a human brain, is controlled by mechanically pushing a flexible catheter having a magnetic tip through the medium and applying a magnetic field having a magnitude and a direction that guides the mechanically-pushed catheter tip stepwise along a desired path. The magnetic field is controlled in a Magnetic Stereotaxis System by a processor using an adaptation of a PID (proportional, integral, and derivative) feedback method. The magnetic fields are applied by superconducting coils, and the currents applied through the coils are selected to minimize a current metric.

Abstract: A method for scavenging mercaptans in a hydrocarbon fluid is disclosed. According to the method, an effective mercaptan-scavenging amount of an aqueous scavenging composition is added to the fluid. The composition comprises a quaternary ammonium hydroxide of the formula R.sup.1 R.sup.2 R.sup.3 R.sup.4 NOH. R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are, independently, alkyl groups of from one to about eighteen carbon atoms, aryl groups of from six to about eighteen carbon atoms or alkylaryl groups of from seven to about eighteen carbon atoms. R.sup.3 is an alkyl group of from two to about eighteen carbon atoms, an aryl group of from two to about eighteen carbon atoms or an alkylaryl group of from four to about eighteen carbon atoms. R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may be joined to form a heterocyclic ring including the N and optionally an oxygen atom. R.sup.4 is --(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n H, wherein n is an integer from one to about eighteen, or --CHR.sup.5 CHR.sup.6 Y, wherein R.sup.5 and R.sup.
Abstract: A fireplace has a firebox with a controllable outside air vent to provide a source of cooler air for mixing with and modulating the temperature of the air heated by the fireplace. The air vent is vertically formed between a combustion chamber and a surrounding shell so that a convective current causes the air to flow therethrough and pass over the top surface of the combustion chamber to keep it cooler than otherwise possible with heated room air. Convective currents in another air duct formed between the shell and the combustion chamber circulates room air around the combustion chamber to transfer heat to the room air. The warmed outside air and room air mixes in a plenum above the fireplace prior to entering the room, thereby modulating the temperature of the heated air and permitting it to burn without excessively heating the room. A damper regulates the flow of outside air into the air vent, as desired.
Abstract: A purified and isolated DNA sequence and the encoded mammary-specific protein, mammaglobin, are disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for the detecting breast cancer based upon the overexpression and secretion of mammaglobin by breast cancer cells. The methods detect and/or quantitate the presence of mammaglobin or the mRNA encoding mammaglobin.
Abstract: A child resistant lock for manually-operated pump dispensers such as trigger sprayers, prevents movement of the trigger and reciprocation of the sprayer pump element when the lock is engaged.
Abstract: A motor terminal box of the present invention comprises a base having a first perimeter flange and a cover having a second perimeter flange adapted for engagement with the first perimeter flange. One of the first and second perimeter flanges has a projection and the other of the first and second perimeter flanges has a recess adapted to receive the projection when the first and second perimeter flanges are in engagement with one another. In another aspect of a terminal box of the present invention, the first perimeter flange has a first mating surface lying substantially in a first plane. The second perimeter flange has a second mating surface lying substantially in a second plane. The first and second planes are substantially co-planer when the first and second perimeter flanges are in engagement with one another.
Abstract: Structural members, such as glazing bars, are extruded from aluminium. Pockets are formed in the structural members to receive steel reinforcing elements.

Abstract: A circuit operator with a push to test arrangement includes a housing. A first switch is mounted in the housing and has a toggle lever pivotably connected thereto so as to place the toggle switch in its on or off state. A second switch is also mounted in the housing and is connected to a push button for initiating tests. A single switch actuator allows a user to actuate the first switch and/or the second switch from an exterior of the housing.

Abstract: A headband and its method of construction requires only a few sections of cloth or fabric that are sewn together in a minimum number of simplified steps in constructing the headband.
Abstract: A register assembly for covering an air duct opening is comprised of a faceplate, a base, a damper mechanism and a filter frame that are easily assembled together. Most if not all of the component parts may be constructed of plastic reducing the manufacturing cost of the register assembly. The faceplate can be snapped onto the base or manually removed from the base without the use of fasteners or tools. The faceplate is replaceable, allowing the use of various ornamental designs of the faceplate grid on the same base containing the damper mechanism and filter frame. The filter frame is easily removed from the base to allow replacement or cleaning of the filter materials supported in the frame.
Abstract: A treadmill of the present invention comprises a base, a pair of spaced rollers journalled in the base, an endless belt, a longitudinally extending support deck, and a deck spacer. One of the rollers constitutes a rear roller and the other roller constitutes a forward roller spaced forward of the rear roller. The endless belt is entrained around the rollers and includes an upper reach that extends longitudinally between the rollers. The upper reach of the belt is adapted to enable a user to walk or run thereon. The support deck is connected to the base and is operatively engageable with an underside of the upper reach of the endless belt for supporting the upper reach. The deck spacer includes a deck engaging portion adapted for operatively engaging the support deck. The deck engaging portion is adapted to operate in at least a first condition and a second condition.

Abstract: A process for digesting solid waste material comprises collecting the waste from a first location in a solids digestion vessel and transporting it to a second location where a fluids digestion vessel is located. At least some of the fluid fraction from the fluids digestion vessel is fed to the solids digestion vessel so that anaerobic digestion of the solid waste occurs in the solids digestion vessel. At least some of the digested solid waste is recovered and the solids digestion vessel is preferably returned to the first location. The invention also provides apparatus for use in the process.
Abstract: A closure comprising a cap and container where the cap is integrally formed with a trigger sprayer housing and the cap and container have four thread connectors that attach the cap to the container by a quarter turn of the cap relative to the container, and where the cap also has locking tabs that snap over detents on the container and hold the cap securely to the container preventing unintended separation of the cap from the container.
