Patent number: 6458280Abstract: A humidifier with an integrated bacteriostat dispenser is disclosed. In one embodiment, a hand-operated bacteriostat pump is mounted on the humidifier housing and dispenses a predetermined amount of bacteriostat into the water tray of the humidifier when operated upon. In another embodiment, the bacteriostat automatically dispenses an amount of bacteriostat appropriate for the amount of water discharged from a water bottle into the water tray. In this embodiment, a chamber is defined for holding bacteriostat. A regulator keeps the amount of bacteriostat in the chamber at a predetermined level. A plunger head is partially disposed in the chamber and is connected to a surface the position of which changes with the water level in the water bottle. The position of the plunger head thus moves as the water level in the water bottle changes, displacing bacteriostat into the water tray. Patent number: 6459888Abstract: A multiple-hypothesis frequency detection or demodulation system and method in a mobile communication system such as a GSM mobile telephone system includes a GSM mobile unit for demodulating the received signal by applying three hypotheses. The first hypothesis is based on the assumption that transmitted signal was received without frequency offset or phase rotation. The second hypothesis assumes a phase rotation of +a degrees on the first half of a burst and a phase rotation of −a degrees on the following half burst. Finally, the third hypothesis assumes that the data burst has a phase rotation of −a degrees on the first half burst and a phase rotation of +a degrees on the next following half burst. Any frequency offset is estimated based on a comparison of the results of the three separate demodulation attempts. Based on the frequency offset estimate, the transmitted signal may be demodulated without adjustment of the local oscillator.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1998Date of Patent: October 1, 2002Assignee: Skyworks Solutions, Inc.Inventor: Ricke W. Patent number: 6459189Abstract: An improved rotor for an induction motor is disclosed. In one aspect of the disclosed invention, endshield laminations are placed on the top and bottom of a lamination stack of a rotor. The endshields have holes therein which mask the ends of the bar members within the lamination stack. The unmasked portions of the bar members are connected through the holes to connection members in such a fashion to make multiple compound short-circuit loops. Because the endshields, like the laminations generally, are not conductive, the connection members are only in contact with the bar members through the holes in the endshield, which prevents the multiple loops from shorting to one another. The bar members and connector members are preferably die-cast in and around the rotor laminations and the endshields.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2000Date of Patent: October 1, 2002Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventor: Jerry D. Patent number: 6453975Abstract: The present invention is directed to a modular roll-up partition assembly, such as a rolling protective shutter, implementing an improved tension adjustment mechanism for torsion springs used in roll-up partition assemblies. In one embodiment, the roll-up partition assembly of the present invention includes a tension adjustment mechanism to adjust the tension of a torsion spring connected between a support rod and the partition support member. The tension adjustment mechanism rotates the support rod to move the end of the torsion spring connected to the rod relative to the end of the torsion spring connected to the partition support member. Unlike previous roll-up partition assemblies which permitted adjustment of the torsion spring tension only in increments of a full rotation of the support member, the tension adjustment mechanism facilitates fine adjustment of the torsion spring in increments of less than a full rotation of the partition support member.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2001Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Inventor: James V. Patent number: 6455439Abstract: A method of fabricating a mask forms a rectangular opening within etch resistant material that overlays a substrate. The mask preferably comprises two layers of photoresist separated by a layer of light blocking material. One of the layers of photoresist is patterned per a longitudinal exposure strip, and the other per an overlap of a lateral exposure strip with the longitudinal exposure strip, so as to provide an opening for the mask where the two overlap. With this mask over a substrate, the substrate is etched to form a container therein with a rectangular cross-section corresponding to the aperture of the mask. The container is then lined with electrically conductive material, dielectric, and electrically conductive material respectively to form a capacitor in the container—e.g., a container-cell capacitor for a DRAM device.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2001Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Assignee: Micron Technology, Inc.Inventor: Gurtej S.
