Abstract: A method of electrically logging subterranean wells using a conductive double emulsion fluid includes a miscible combination of an oleaginous fluid, an emulsifier capable of forming a microemulsion, an emulsifier capable of forming an invert emulsion, and an electrolytic salt. A microemulsion is the continuous phase of an invert emulsion. The electrolytic salt or brine of the salt is present in a concentration sufficient to permit the electrical logging of the subterranean well. The fluid may additionally contain a polar organic solvent and a carbon dioxide buffer. The polar organic solvent may be an oil soluble glycol or glycol ether such as ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, and the like.

Abstract: A method and system for verifying the age of a purchaser prior to his purchase of age-restricted items from a vending machine. An authorization card is issued to a customer containing a password when the customer presents identification material identifying the customer as being of at least a predetermined age. The customer inputs the authorization card into the vending machine, and a comparison of the password on the card is made to the password stored in a microprocessor in the vending machine. If the passwords match, the vending machine is enabled to accept payment from the customer and to vend the age-restricted product.
Abstract: A wellbore fluid having a non-aqueous continuous liquid phase that exhibits an electrical conductivity of not less than 10 &mgr;S m−1 at 1 kHz comprises a polar organic liquid (POL) which exhibits a dielectric constant of at least about 5.0 and a Hildebrand Solubility Parameter of at least about 17 (J cm−3)1/2. Oils or other organic liquids (OL) known to be suitable as the continuous liquid phase of wellbore fluids, may be used in admixture with POL component. Certain inorganic salts, organic bases, quaternary ammonium salts or hydroxides (the dissolved component, DC), display sufficient solubility (and current carrying abilities) in POL, OL or in mixtures of liquid (POL) and liquid (OL) to further improve the electrical conductivity of the mixture. The wellbore fluid can be used for providing enhanced information from electrical logging tools, measurement while drilling, logging while drilling, geosteering and the like.

Abstract: An engine installation jig and method for installing an engine in a marine vessel according to predetermined engine installation criteria. The jig comprises a longitudinal member, two lateral crossbar members and a fixture head. The jig also includes leveling devices for manipulating the position of the jig relative to the marine vessel and at least one leveling sensor for providing a visual indication of the planar orientation of the jig within the marine vessel. The jig is coupled to the marine vessel via the leveling devices and the fixture head. Once the jig has been aligned and installed, engine mount holes are drilled in either the stringers or the stringer brackets of the marine vessel, the engine set into the marine vessel so that the engine mounts align with the drilled engine mount holes, and the engine installed.

Abstract: A power measurement circuit, suitable for use in communications devices, is provided in which first and second signals derived from the signal of interest are passed through a multiplier, and the output of the multiplier is passed through a filter. In one embodiment, the filter provides a signal substantially representative of or relating to the DC component of the signal output from the multiplier. In another embodiment, the filter provides a signal substantially representative of or relating to the average power of the signal of interest. Advantageously, in one embodiment, the signal output from the filter bears a substantially linear relationship to the average power of the signal of interest over a desired region of operation. In a second embodiment, the signal output from the filter is advantageously substantially frequency invariant over a desired region of operation.

Abstract: A priming vacuum control system for use on a self-priming pump includes a priming vacuum control valve and a priming vacuum control valve-actuating system. The priming vacuum control valve is disposed between a vacuum pump and a priming chamber for the self-priming pump so as to decouple the vacuum communication between the vacuum pump and the priming chamber when the priming vacuum control valve is closed. In one illustrative embodiment, the priming vacuum control valve includes: a valve stem positioned within a valve body, and a valve spring or other means for biasing is operatively positioned between the valve body and the valve stem so as to apply a default closing force between the valve body and the valve stem. The “guideless” priming vacuum control valve of the present invention eliminates the inherent problems of sticking, poor performance and high maintenance exhibited by the prior state of the art priming vacuum control valves containing guides.
