Abstract: The invention presents a biodegradable polyester polymer comprising ##STR1## wherein: n=number of repeating polymer units of the formula shown; p=0 or 1, 0 indicating the absence of the subscripted constituent; q=0 or 1, 0 indicating the absence of the subscripted constituent; when p=0, 1=1; when p=1, 1=0; R.sup.1 =a divalent organic substituent which can include oxygen, nitrogen or sulfur atoms as part of the polymer backbone; R.sup.2 =a divalent organic substituent which can include oxygen, nitrogen or sulfur atoms as part of the polymer backbone; R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are each independently hydrogen or an organic substituent or together form a divalent ring which may be optionally substituted; and each R is independently H, alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl or cycloalkynyl, all optionally substituted with F, Cl, Br, I, CN or NO.sub.2.
Abstract: A method is set forth for forming conductive contacts to first, second and third regions of a substrate. The substrate is covered with an insulating layer having a slot with an island therein. The island is covered with a first sacrificial layer. The substrate is covered with a conformal coating of a dielectric material. The coating is etched off with retention of sacrificial portions of the dielectric material between the island and the insulating layer. The first sacrificial layer is removed from the island while the sacrificial portions remain. A conductive layer is deposited upon the substrate. A second sacrificial layer is laid down upon the conductive layer. The second sacrificial layer is etched away along with the sacrificial portions of the dielectric material while the conductive layer is not significantly removed. Highly conductive contacts are provided with the conductive material self-aligned on the source, drain and gate.
Abstract: This invention relates to dyes which are resistant to hypochlorite attack, exemplary of which are anthraquinone dyes of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1, X.sub.2, X.sub.3, X.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, and R.sub.8 are defined within the specification. The invention also relates to hydrophobic latex particles, such as polyethylene, in which such dyes are deposited. A combined liquid bleaching and dyeing composition is disclosed which includes the aforementioned particles in hypochlorite liquid bleach at a pH above about 11. This composition has sufficiently long shelf life for the purposes of ordinary commerce.
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a process for forming a unitary seal comprising a support section formed of a high modulus, i.e. rigid high impact strength plastic and a sealing section formed of an elastomeric material, the support and sealing section being directly bonded together without the use of an adhesive therebetween to form the unitary seal. The process comprises contacting a surface portion of the support section directly with a surface portion of the sealing section, under sufficient pressure to assure a pressed contact therebetween, with the sections at a temperature of 50.degree. C.-400.degree. C. for a time sufficient to cause bonding between the contacting surface portions to form the unitary seal.
Abstract: An improvement in a linkage assembly which comprises a bellcrank pivotally mounted on a stationary shaft. The improvement comprises first screw threads on the stationary shaft and second screw threads on the bellcrank mating with the first screw threads to form the pivotal mounting of the bellcrank to the stationary shaft while substantially preventing axial motion of the bellcrank relative to the stationary shaft in the absence of relative flotation therebetween. Any play or looseness in the motion of the bellcrank is thereby substantially eliminated.
