  • Patent number: 7620207
Abstract: A method and system is configured to characterize regions of an environment by the likelihoods of transition of a target from each region to another. The likelihoods of transition between regions is preferably used in combination with conventional object-tracking algorithms to determine the likelihood that a newly-appearing object in a scene corresponds to a recently-disappeared target. The likelihoods of transition may be predefined based on the particular environment, or may be determined based on prior appearances and disappearances in the environment, or a combination of both. The likelihoods of transition may also vary as a function of the time of day, day of the week, and other factors that may affect the likelihoods of transitions between regions in the particular surveillance environment.

  • Patent number: 7619648
Abstract: A surveillance system allows a user to characterize the user's environment and/or the user s surveillance application, via a selection from among a variety of predefined environments and/or applications. Preferably, the selection is from among a variety of scene configurations, such as the expected number and type of targets in a typical scene, the lighting conditions of the scene, and so on. The selected environments and/or applications effect a determination of the parameters that are used in the various algorithms and processing modules within the surveillance system. Because the selection is preferably from a variety of common scene configurations, no technical skills are required to effect an optimization of the performance of the surveillance system for a particular environment.

  • Patent number: 7616109
Abstract: A system and method is provided for indicating a masking event using transmission wiring delegated for indicating intrusion and tampering events. The method of indicating a masking event utilizes measurable changes in resistance to indicate the current masking state of a detector. When a detector is not masked, a first resistance value is measurable on the transmission wiring, while when a detector is masked, a second resistance value is measurable on the transmission wiring. The transmission wiring connects the detector to a control unit that executes a security-related response based on the value of the measured resistance.

  • Patent number: 7616148
Abstract: A dual mode motion sensor for detecting both motion of a moving target and a range of the moving target. The dual mode motion sensor normally operates in a pulse transmission mode. If motion is detected, the sensor automatically switches to a frequency modulated continuous wave transmission mode. This will allow the sensor to determine the range of the moving target. The sensor includes a microcontroller that compares the determined range of the moving target with a predetermined maximum detection range. If the determined range is outside or exceeds the predetermined maximum detection range the sensor will ignore the motion. If the determined range is within the predetermined maximum detection range, an alarm will be generated.
