  • Patent number: 8291446
Abstract: Systems and methods allow for the distribution of a requested program to a consumer device via a high-bandwidth connection. Consumers cast votes for requested programs via communications channels other than the high-bandwidth connection. A portion of the high-bandwidth connection is allocated to a number of programs, including the requested program. An instruction is subsequently transmitted to the consumer device to thereby allow the consumer device to receive the requested program from the allocated portion of the high-bandwidth connection.

  • Patent number: 8290499
Abstract: A computerized model provides a display of a physical environment in which a communications network is or will be installed. The communications network is comprised of several components, each of which are selected by the design engineer and which are represented in the display. Errors in the selection of certain selected components for the communications network are identified by their attributes or frequency characteristics as well as by their interconnection compatibility for a particular design. The effects of changes in frequency on component performance are modeled and the results are displayed to the design engineer. A bill of materials is automatically checked for faults and generated for the design system and provided to the design engineer. For ease of design, the design engineer can cluster several different preferred components into component kits, and then select these component kits for use in the design or deployment process.

  • Patent number: 8286432
Abstract: A turbine engine fuel supply system includes a priority flow line, a plurality of secondary fuel loads, a fluid-powered metering pump, a mechanically-driven fuel pump, and an electric machine. The fluid-powered metering pump, upon receiving fuel at its fuel inlet, rotates at a rotational speed, discharges the fuel from its fuel outlet at a flow rate dependent on the rotational speed, and supplies a first drive torque. The mechanically-driven fuel pump receives a second drive torque and, in response, draws fuel into its fuel inlet and discharges the fuel from its outlet to the fluid-powered metering pump fuel inlet to drive the fluid-powered metering fuel pump. The electric machine receives the first drive torque from the fluid-powered metering pump and generates electrical power.

  • Patent number: 8286434
Abstract: A supersonic inlet employs relaxed isentropic compression to improve net propulsive force by shaping the compression surface of the inlet. Relaxed isentropic compression shaping of the inlet compression surface functions to reduce cowl lip surface angles, thereby improving inlet drag characteristics and interference drag characteristics. Supersonic inlets in accordance with the invention also demonstrate reductions in peak sonic boom overpressure while maintaining performance.

  • Patent number: 8284082
Abstract: A player decodes and renders encoded digital data received from an encoder. During processing, the player periodically monitors dropped frames as well as time spent. If the dropped frames are below a minimum, the player determines to signal the encoder to increase bit rate or frame rate by consulting a table. If the player determines to increase bit rate, the player signals accordingly. However, if the player determines to increase frame rate, the player first verifies that the spent time is below a minimum. To the contrary, if the dropped frames are both above the minimum and a first maximum but not a second maximum, the player determines to signal the encoder to decrease bit rate or frame rate by consulting the table and signaling accordingly. However, if the dropped frames are above the second maximum, the player signals the encoder to decrease the frame rate without consulting the table.
