  • Patent number: 8308783
Abstract: A collapsible bone screw for healing bone fragments across a bone fracture includes an externally threaded inner screw member and an externally threaded outer screw member. The inner screw member is initially screwed into an inner bone portion. An unthreaded portion of the outer screw member is movably joined to the inner screw member. The outer screw member is screwed until it gains purchase in an outer bone portion. As impaction occurs over time, the collapsible bone screw apparatus may shorten in length as the two screw members slide, telescope or otherwise axially move toward each other to shorten the overall length, thereby preventing any portion of the screw apparatus from protruding out of the bone. A bone screw kit of multiple inner and outer screw members are provided as well as a method of surgically fastening bone fragments.

  • Patent number: 8231358
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a vacuum ejector pump. The pump is operated by compressed air which is supplied to or discharged from the pump at high speed, thus creating negative pressure in an outer surrounding space. The ejector pump includes a frame having an air inlet pipe, a disc, and an air outlet pipe which are sequentially arranged to be spaced apart from each other. The parts are coupled into a single structure via a spacer. A nozzle is mounted to pass through the center of the disc, and a flexible valve member is mounted to the spacer A nozzle body is accommodated in a cylindrical casing having a hole at a position corresponding to the valve member, and defines a chamber inside the spacer. A locking structure is provided on the casing and the nozzle body so as to prevent the casing, which accommodates the nozzle body, from rotating.

  • Patent number: 8226126
Abstract: A mixing assembly includes a coupler with a temporary seal that is connected to a first container containing mix ingredients. An internally and externally threaded insert is threadedly mated with the internally threaded coupler in an initial position short of breaching the temporary seal. A second container is screwed into the internally threaded insert. Sealing relationships are formed between the coupler and the insert, and between the insert and the received second container. Once the second container is secured to the insert, the coupler is screwed downwardly toward the insert to cause the insert to threadedly advance toward and eventually breach the temporary seal to enable contents of the first container to mix with that of the second container.

  • Patent number: 8173224
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for impregnating wood or wood based material. A working solution is preheated to a temperature above the atmospheric boiling point (“a super hot temperature”) above the atmospheric boiling point (“a super hot temperature”) of the working solution, at an elevated pressure sufficient to maintain the working solution in the liquid phase. The working solution is contacted with a wood or wood based material at a super hot temperature and an elevated pressure to cause impregnation of the solution into the wood or wood based material. The impregnated wood or wood based material and any remaining working solution, waste material and/or by-products are then separated.

  • Patent number: 8152337
Abstract: A multi-panel electronic display for use on a structure, comprising a frame removably attached to the structure in such a way as to encounter a natural airflow, a plurality of individual panels mounted on the frame, each panel comprising a first side and a second side opposite the first side, the first side comprising a plurality of light sources, wherein each individual panel works with other individual panels to display an image, and a printed circuit on the second side of more than one of the individual panels of the multi-panel electronic display and in thermally conductive communication with the frame such that heat generated by electronic components on the circuit board is dissipated within the frame and such that the frame is cooled by the natural airflow. The frame may be corrugated to facilitate dissipation of the heat and create space for electrical wiring, and thermally conductive pads may be inserted between the circuit board and the frame to further dissipate heat.

  • Patent number: 8075325
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly that detaches and mates in wet or contaminated environments is disclosed. The electrical connector assembly is configured for displacing and draining water and other contaminants from contact pins and surrounding surfaces during the connection process. As the electrical connector assembly is mated, water and other containments are removed from the contact pins and the surfaces surrounding the contact pins. This prevents contact pins from electrically shorting with other contact pins as a result of undesired current flow through the water collected on the surface.

  • Patent number: 7981382
Abstract: A device for collecting, testing and storing fluids includes a container and a removable cap. Body fluids, such as urine, are collected in the container. The cap defines a test strip holder that receives one or more drug test strips and an adulteration strip. An opening defined through a bottom of the cap provides fluid communication between the container and the cap. When tilted, fluid from the container enters the cap through the hole. A variety of plugs may be employed to block the opening and thereby prevent fluid communication between the container and the cap after fluid has entered the cap. The remaining uncontaminated and untested body fluid is stored in the container and thus made available for further confirmation testing. Associated methods for collecting, testing and storing fluids with a single device are also provided. A method of manufacturing the foregoing test device is also provided.
