Abstract: Perceptual audio codecs make use of filter banks and MDCT in order to achieve a compact representation of the audio signal, by removing redundancy and irrelevancy from the original audio signal. During quasi-stationary parts of the audio signal a high frequency resolution of the filter bank is advantageous in order to achieve a high coding gain, but this high frequency resolution is coupled to a coarse temporal resolution that becomes a problem during transient signal parts by producing audible pre-echo effects. The invention achieves improved coding/decoding quality by applying on top of the output of a first filter bank a second non-uniform filter bank, i.e. a cascaded MDCT. The inventive codec uses switching to an additional extension filter bank (or multi-resolution filter bank) in order to re-group the time-frequency representation during transient or fast changing audio signal sections.

Abstract: There is provided a method and system for sorting mailpieces in which data objects that are relevant for the sorting of the mailpieces are processed, and a result of the processing of a data object in a first data processing system is transmitted to a second data processing system for further processing. An exemplary method comprises providing in the first and second data processing systems a definition list that contains associations between the data objects and an unambiguous identifier and in which attributes of the data objects are indicated, whereby the unambiguous identifier of the data object is contained in the result of the processing of the data object, and whereby the second data processing system ascertains the attributes of the data object on the basis of the definition list and carries out the further processing of the result of the processing of the data object in the first data processing system on the basis of the ascertained attributes.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for transporting physical objects, wherein at least one physical object is transported from a sending station to a receiving station, wherein the transport occurs through at least one physical router, wherein the physical router executes a decision about further parameters of transport to another physical router or to the receiving station. The method is carried out in that a central control computer receives information for handling and moving the physical objects and that the central control computer influences supplies for transport means and/or the transport means according to environmental data.

The exemplary collecting container additionally comprises a receiving device arranged to receive the objects and to convey them to a storage space in the collecting container, the storage space containing a filling-level measuring means that is connected to a blocking device preventing the receiving device from being opened when a defined filling level has been reached in the storage space, the receiving device comprising a roller shutter box whose receiving area is formed by at least two side walls and a bottom. The exemplary collecting container further comprises a roller shutter that is adapted to be moved in rails on the side walls, the blocking device being configured so that it can block the movement of the roller shutter.

Abstract: A device and method for enriching and/or depleting substances in a liquid is disclosed. An exemplary device comprises a membrane module that consists essentially of concentric elements and that has a separation element in which the substance to be enriched and/or depleted is carried, and whereby the liquid is carried outside of the separation element. The exemplary device also comprises a drive module that encompasses a drive unit for driving a conveying element that conveys the liquid, the drive unit having a radial magnetic coupling for a central impeller located on the inside. The exemplary device further comprises a conveying module for conveying the liquid through the device, housing the conveying element, whereby the drive module is adapted to be inserted into and removed from the membrane module with a liquid-tight closure. The exemplary device further an oxygenator having an outside fiber bundle and an inside fiber bundle.

Abstract: An adapter for connecting a multi-core cable to a coaxial cable is provided. Adapters according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may be used in an arrangement comprising several adapters that are connected to each other using of a coaxial cable. Adapters and arrangements according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may allow a cost-effective conversion of existing mobile radio stations to modern RRH technology.
