  • Patent number: 6012760
Abstract: A weather strip is adhered to a vehicle by a double sided adhesive tape. The weather strip seals between the vehicle body and a door when the door is closed. The weather strip includes a first section extruded from a rubber material, which is vulcanized at a vulcanizing temperature. The weather strip also includes a second section molded from a thermoplastic elastomer at a temperature lower than the vulcanizing temperature. The adhesive tape is applied to the weather strip to span the first section and the second section. This permits a single piece of tape to be continuously applied to the weather strip, which is more efficient.

  • Patent number: 6006094
Abstract: A new prefix, an international mobile call prefix, is provided in a telecommunications network, such as PSTN, for routing the PSTN originating international call to a foreign mobile subscriber. When a local PSTN exchange receives the international mobile call prefix in the dialed telephone number, it will route the call to a predetermined destination in the same country. The predetermined destination is a network element having a capability of making international routing information interrogation to a home PLMN of a called foreign mobile subscriber. Upon receiving the routing information from the home PLMN the call will be routed to the current location of the called foreign mobile subscriber according to the routing information. As a result, unnecessary international legs in the call can be avoided when the called mobile subscriber is roaming abroad.

  • Patent number: 6004776
Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparing a protein by a eukaryote transformed by multicopy integration of an expression vector into the genome of a yeast, such as Saccharomyces, Hansenula, and Kluyveromyces, or of a mould such as Aspergillus, Rhizopus and Trichoderma, the expression vector containing both an "expressible gene" encoding the protein and a so-called "deficient selection marker needed for the growth of the yeast or mould in a specific medium", such as the LEU2d, TRP1d or URA3d gene, in combination with a ribosomal DNA sequence, resulting in stable high copy integration of 100-300 copies per cell. This multicopy integration results in an increased production of the desired protein, which can be guar .alpha.-galactosidase, an oxidase or a hydrolytic enzyme such as a lipase.

  • Patent number: 6000572
Abstract: A console box for storing small articles includes a box body, an outer lid pivotally mounted for opening and closing the box body and an inner lid disposed between the box body and the outer lid. The box body has a first space for storing small articles. The outer lid pivots within a first angle with respect to the box body. The outer lid is box-shaped and has a second space inside. The inner lid has a third space for storing other small articles. The inner lid is located in the second space of the outer lid when the outer lid is closed. The inner lid pivots in accordance with the movement of the outer lid to a second angle that is smaller than the first angle with respect to the box body. • Patent number: 5999817
Abstract: A method for performing encoding in a cellular network includes, in each cell, at least one base station communicating with terminal equipment within its coverage area, and a mobile switching center controlling the operation of the base stations. In order to improve the transmission quality over a connection between two terminal equipment, when the mobile switching center detects, during call set-up or handover, that the call is between two terminal equipment located within the area of the mobile switching center, the mobile switching center guides the transcoders of base stations communicating with the terminal equipment to a mode in which the transcoders adapt the rate to fit the transmission network, but do not encode the speech signal.

  • Patent number: 5998700
Abstract: Plant nitrogen metabolism in corn and tobacco has been altered by transformation with a highly active assimilatory glutamate dehydrogenase gene. Plants containing the gdhA gene are resistant to phosphinothricin herbicides (PPT) which can include glufosinate herbicides. Additionally, these transformed plants evidence higher levels of tolerance to PPT when combined with another PPT resistant gene. This invention also includes the method of improving plant growth in a field of crops encoding for GDH due to a gdhA transgene.

  • Patent number: 5995422
Abstract: The present invention provides a redundancy circuit in a semiconductor memory device which has spare memory cells which can store information that can be substituted for data of defective memory cells after the completion of the manufacturing process. If addresses designating the defective memory cells are externally input, the redundancy circuit generates a defective cell relief address signal which corresponds to the address designating the defective memory cell and is used to prevent defective data stored in normal memory cells from being output and causes correction data, to be substituted for the defective data output in correspondence with the defective cell relief address.

  • Patent number: 5991716
Abstract: A transcoder which prevents tandem coding of speech in a mobile-to-mobile call within a mobile communication system uses a speech coding method for reducing transmission rate on the radio path. The transcoder includes a speech coder, which encodes the speech signal into speech parameters for transmission to a mobile station, and decodes the speech parameters received from the mobile station into a speech signal according to the speech coding method, as well as a PCM coder for transmitting an uplink speech signal to and for receiving a downlink speech signal from a PCM interface in the form of PCM speech samples. In addition to the normal operation, the transcoder transmits and receives speech parameters through a PCM interface in a subchannel formed by least significant bits of the PCM speech samples. Thus, it is possible to prevent tandem coding while maintaining the standard PCM interface, and the signaling and services associated thereto.

Abstract: Adhesive material is directed by two gumming applicators onto selected portions of a wrapping material as it advances in a given feed direction at a predetermined velocity, with no interruption in the movement of the wrapping material. The two applicators make a forward pass and a return pass, each composed of two constituent passes, during the course of which the adhesive material is deposited simultaneously along respective first and second segments of a first trail in the forward direction and in like manner along respective first and second segments of a second trail in the reverse direction; each complete trail extends transversely and substantially across the full width of the wrapping material.

  • Patent number: 5987007
Abstract: A method of manipulating the header field in an ATM cell. In accordance with the method, the ATM cell is transferred via an interface where each byte of the cell appears in a parallel form on a plurality of parallel data conductors and where information on the start of cell (SOC) is also available. In order to be able to carry out header bit manipulation in a simple manner at such an interface, data conductors corresponding to the bits to be manipulated are led to a circuit carrying out the manipulation, and the other data conductors are led past the circuit. The bit to be manipulated is searched for by counting from start of cell up to the byte containing the bit to be manipulated, after which the bit is manipulated. An output conductor corresponding to the manipulated bit is led from the manipulation circuit to its own position among the data conductors that bypassed the circuit.

  • Patent number: 5987323
Abstract: A method for starting a short message transmission in a cellular communication system, a cellular communication system, and a cellular communication system subscriber location register includes the subscriber location register which stores information on the fact that at least one short message service center stores short messages to be transmitted to a subscriber to whom the messages cannot be transmitted for the time being, and the subscriber location register of the subscriber which transmits to at least one short message service center a short message transmission starting message when it is again possible to transmit short messages to the subscriber. In order that short messages can be transmitted to subscribers selectively, the subscriber location register maintains short message service center and subscriber-specific information on the conditions under on which the short message service center is to be transmitted short message transmission starting messages.
