The peptide effectively targets atherosclerotic plaques, and binds to IL-4R to thereby exhibit antagonistic effects on IL-4-mediated signaling of cellular inflammatory reaction and survival reaction. The peptide of the present invention can be used for diagnosis of atherosclerosis, prevention and treatment of IL-4-induced inflammatory reaction and prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis which is primarily caused by the inflammatory reaction, as well as for prevention or treatment of atherosclerosis via conjugation with an anti-atherosclerotic drug.

Abstract: A demand initiated method for regenerating a water softener which operates the softener ion exchange bed over a capacity range in which the resin is most efficiently restored by exposure to brine. The reserve capacity of the softener is adjusted in response to the amount of softening capacity used since the last regeneration, as is the quantity of saturated brine to be used for the next regeneration, which is scheduled when the reserve capacity is exceeded, or the remaining available capacity will not be adequate for expected usage on the next day of the week. The method schedules a regeneration when the amount of exchange capacity of the resin bed used since the last regeneration plus the variation of exchange capacity used on the next day plus the average exchange capacity of the resin bed used on the next day is greater than the selected design exchange capacity.

Abstract: A skin whitening cosmetic composition having excellent whitening effects without causing any side effects, which includes a carbonized pine cone, as well as a pack containing the same. The skin whitening cosmetic composition includes natural substances, unlike prior commercially available products, and has excellent whitening effects without causing any side effect since it is safe to the skin. When the whitening cosmetic composition is used as it is or as a pack together with a substrate, such as a nonwoven fabric, it will provide a functional pack that can impart whitening effects in addition to effects, such as skin moisturization and skin firming.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a thin film transistor with improved current characteristics and high electron mobility. According to the method, when an amorphous silicon thin film is crystallized into a polycrystalline silicon thin film by metal-induced crystallization, annealing conditions of the amorphous silicon thin film and the amount of a metal catalyst doped into the amorphous silicon thin film are optimized to reduce the regions of a metal silicide distributed at grain boundaries of the polycrystalline silicon thin film. In addition, oxygen (O2) gas or water (H2O) vapor is supplied to form a passivation film on the surface of the polycrystalline silicon thin film.

Abstract: The invention relates to an improved process for the preparation of Losartan. The process comprising reacting 2-n-butyl-4-chloro-5-formyl imidazole with 2-(4-bromomethyl) benzonitrile in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst and an alkali, and reducing the resulting cyano aldehyde to produce a cyano alcohol which is further reacted with sodium azide in N-methyl pyrrolidinone and a salt to produce Losartan.
Abstract: The invention relates to a improved process for the preparation of Losartan and its potassium salt, which comprises: (i) reacting bromo OTBN with BCFI in the presence of a base and a phase transfer catalyst to produce a cyano aldehyde; reacting the formed cyano aldehyde with sodium azide in the presence of tributyl tin chloride to produce aldehyde tetrazole; reducing the formed aldehyde tetrazole with sodium borohydride to produce Losartan; and, if desired, converting the formed Losartan to its potassium salt by known method.
Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of aripiprazole (1) which comprises (i) reacting 6-hydroxy-l-indanone (11) with 1,4-dihalobutane (12) in the presence of a base and a solvent at a temperature in the range of 90 to 110 deg C to form the novel intermediate 6-(4-halo butoxy)-indan-1-one (3), (ii) reacting the novel intermediate with 1-(2,3-clichlorophenyl)-piperazine (9) to get another novel intermediate 6-[4-[4-(2,3-dichlorophenyl)-l-piperazinyl]butoxy]-indan-l-one (2) and (iii) reacting the resulting novel compound with sodium azide. The invention also relates to the novel intermediates of the formulae (2) & (3) and processes for their preparation. The invention also includes intermediate compounds useful for the preparation of aripiprazole.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a one-piece axle tube housing with localized sections of increased wall thickness includes providing a tube blank, inserting a mandrel having a reduced diameter profile, passing the tube through an extrusion die to conform the tube to the shape of the mandrel; and extraction of the mandrel from the tube to cause outward deformation of the tube at specific locations. A further reducing step may be used to form the final desired profile, including reduced inner and outer diameters along sections of the axle tube housing.
