  • Patent number: 4077503
Abstract: This knob assembly comprises a knob housing slidable on a body contained therein, and fixed to a centrally located control shaft. The body has means controlled by springs, to frictionally engage a disc non-rotatably keyed to a panel for said control shaft. Normally the knob housing can be freely spun, but when it is pushed in, it is lockingly engaged with the body whereby rotation of the pushed in knob housing will rotate the shaft with friction drag imposed on rotation of the shaft to thereby prevent inadvertent rotation of the shaft after setting of the angular position of the shaft. A spring causes the knob housing to pull out to disengage the knob housing from the body, to allow the knob housing to substantially spin freely again. The springs which cause friction between the body and the keyed disc, are stronger than the spring which pulls the knob housing out or returns it to normal when the knob housing is released.

  • Patent number: 4043700
Abstract: This invention comprises a control for moving a headstock longitudinally on a radial arm of a radial drilling machine and for moving the radial arm angularly about the axis of rotation, by moving the headstock a predetermined distance along an X--X axis and also moving said headstock a predetermined distance along a Y--Y axis at right angles to the X--X axis, for bringing the axis of the drill spindle on the headstock from one drilling position to another drilling position. One Servo motor moves the headstock on the X--X axis and another motor moves it on the Y--Y axis. The motors may be programmed to move said headstock automatically. When the headstock is moved on the radial arm along the Y--Y axis, angular movement of the radial arm is accompanied by movement of the headstock longitudinally of the radial arm. Thus, the movement of the headstock along X--X and Y--Y axes, also moves the radial arm angularly.

  • Patent number: 4035852
Abstract: This pull out sofa bed is an improvement of the sofa bed disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 3,984,883 dated Oct. 12, 1976 and assigned to the assignee of the present application. In said patent bed there is in effect a lost motion during which no work of compressing the mattress is being performed while slack is being taken up. Consequently the work required to compress the mattress and create the necessary locking of the compressed mattress, is concentrated over a relatively short part of the closing cycle of the folding of the bed. The result of this is that a relatively high "peak" force is required at this portion of the cycle to close the bed and compress the mattress and lock the bed in closed position, thereby requiring exertion of considerable strength by the person closing the bed. The patented bed is satisfactory when the mattresses were made of polyfoam.

  • Patent number: 4012966
Abstract: The knob comprises a body which cannot turn the control shaft unless the body is first pushed in. A brake prevents turning of the knob body when the body is in normal condition. Upon pushing the body rearwardly, the brake is disengaged to allow turning of the knob. Upon releasing the body, spring means projects the body forwardly back to normal condition in which the brake prevents the body from turning. Spring pressed balls allow the body to turn without turning the control shaft upon exerting excessive torque on the body to thereby prevent damage to the controls. Means is provided to limit turning of the control shaft to a predetermined angle.

  • Patent number: 4007838
Abstract: This packet is so constructed as to prevent formation of liquid blisters at sealing areas, which are potential break points and which reduces the shelf life of the packet and does not look good and can cause loss of sterility. The packet has opposed walls which are sealed together at opposite sides and at one end, leaving the other end open for injection of liquid. The open end is lastly sealed. Capillary action of the liquid along the insides of the side seams of the packet can often reach the lastly sealed open end before sealing is accomplished, to cause a blister or weak point which can rupture. The present packet is provided with breaks in the side seams and below the top seam to delay capillary action of the liquid along the inside of the side seams from reaching the open end of the packet before said open end can be sealed, thus preventing formation of liquid blisters at the last sealed area of the packet.

  • Patent number: 3978672
Abstract: This is a multi-cylinder engine with a main piston and an auxiliary piston in each cylinder. The main piston is operated by means of compressed gas as a propellant. The auxiliary piston is operated by a hydraulic system controlled by movement of the main piston, and by a valve in the hydraulic system also controlled by movement of said main piston. The engine can have four engine cylinders. Compressed gas is sequentially applied to the cylinders for about 90.degree. rotation of the crank shaft for each cylinder. The angular degree of rotation of the crank shaft during which compression gas is delivered to the individual cylinders can be varied while the engine keeps operating. Liquid gas vaporizes to gaseous state for use in the engine.

  • Patent number: 3956850
Abstract: This doll has means to simulate the sound and feel of a kiss. One arm and hand of the doll, made of elastic or resilient plastic material, constitutes a bulb connected by a tube sealed to an opening at the mouth and between the lips of the doll. In the tube is a reed through which air passes in a direction toward the opening, without sounding the reed, when the arm is squeezed. The lips of the doll can then be pressed against a persons cheek, and pressure thereafter released from the arm to allow the bulb to expand, to create a partial vacuum causing the cheek to be drawn and held to the lips in the manner of a vacuum cup. Upon thereafter pulling the doll's head away from the cheek, a suction feeling is created, simulating the feel of a kiss, and air rushes through the opening and back through the tube to said arm, to sound the reed, thus simulating the sound of a kiss.
