Abstract: A bed pad has embedded in it a circuit of continuous tubing. Portable heating and refrigerating means are operatively connected to a second tubing circuit by quick disconnect couplings. Electrical control means are selectively operated to heat or cool the liquid in said second tubing circuit. Thermostatic controls may optionally be applied to both the heating and refrigerating means. This has particular use in surgical operating rooms for raising and lowering the temperature of the patient. It is also useful in the recovery room, hospital and or convalescent home.
Abstract: A brake shoe and friction pad that permits removal and replacement of the pad without removing the brake drum or the shoe from its position within the drum by employing spaced upstanding lugs on one end of the shoe and spaced openings on the other edge. The pad has complementary lateral ears on one edge to engage between spaced lugs and complementary bottom projections adjacent its other edge to engage the spaced openings. Further circumferential support is provided by bolts secured inside each flange near the ends of the pad in a manner that permits removal without separating shoe from drum.
Abstract: Apparatus for altering the refraction of corneal tissue including a perforated die to deform the corneal tissue in a predetermined manner so that a cut in a transverse plane achieves the desired alteration. The corneal tissue is held firmly to the die both by suction and mechanical pressure. The method of so treating corneal tissue by deforming it to obtain a desired refraction with a planar cut including a method of holding the tissue in the deformed state by means of suction and mechanical pressure.
