Abstract: A storage cathode comprising a porous, sintered body of a refractory metal is produced by compacting and sintering powder particles of a refractory metal, at least a portion of which are coated, before compacting, with a thin layer of a ductile metal. As a result thereof, it is possible to compact the refractory metal powder, before sintering, at temperatures lower than 600.degree. C., in a non-conditioned space and in an air atmosphere.
Abstract: A step-and-repeat electron image projector for transferring mask patterns repeatedly from a photoemissive cathode reticle (1) onto a target (3) with high resolution capabilities. Accelerated by a uniform electric field E and focussed by a uniform magnetic field H, a patterned electron beam is projected from the reticle (1) onto an area of the target with unity magnification. The electric field E is established between the cathode reticle and an electron permeable anode grid (2) situated between the cathode reticle and the target. Alignment of the beam and the target is effected by detecting electrons backscattered from reference markers (30) on the target with a backscattered electron detector (D) being located between the grid and the target. After exposing one area, the target is moved stepwise on an X-Y table (100) to expose an adjacent area, this procedure being repeated until the entire target has been exposed.
Abstract: A cathode ray tube has discrete x-ray absorbing means integrally associated with the face region thereof to beneficially attenuate the x-radiation emanating peripherally and forwardly therefrom. Attached to the tube face is a closed frame-like resilient gasket impregnated with x-ray absorbing material. Superposed thereon is a cover plate of x-ray absorbing glass. This is adhered to the tube face by a layer of substantially transparent adhesive confined within the gasket.

Abstract: Cerium magnesium aluminate luminescent compositions containing from about 1.25 to about 6.25 mole percent of cerium oxide, from about 1.25 to about 6.25 mole percent of magnesium oxide and from about 87.5 to about 97.5 mole percent of aluminum oxide and compositions containing from about 1.25 to about 4.5 mole percent of cerium oxide, from about 6.25 to 14 mole percent of magnesium oxide and from about 81.5 to about 92.5 mole percent of aluminum oxide, the percentage being calculated on the basis of CeO.sub.1.5, MgO and AlO.sub.1.5, are efficient ultraviolet light emitting materials when excited by 254 nanometer energy. Up to 50 mole percent of the cerium oxide (on a CeO.sub.1.5 basis) content can be replaced by an equivalent molar amount of strontium oxide, calcium oxide or barium oxide. The materials are self-activating due to the presence of trivalent cerium.
Abstract: Plasma flame spray coatings exhibiting improved hardness and wear resistance are produced from flame spray powders comprising spray dried agglomerates of finely divided molybdenum and alumina powder subparticles, wherein the diameters of the agglomerates are at least two times the maximum diameter of the subparticles.
