  • Patent number: 4112539
Abstract: A structural-reinforcement means for a precision, telescoping, bearing, slide mechanism having inner and outer slide members held together by ball bearings, or other well known means, such as frictional or roller bearings, the balls being operably disposed in a ball retainer between the inner and outer slide members, the outer slide member being adapted to be received and supported in an outer, elongated, structural-reinforcing bar member having a longitudinally-extending, center wall and laterally outwardly-extending, flange members integrally formed along each side of the center wall. An inner, elongated, structural bar member is arranged to be received and fixedly mounted within the inner slide member thereof, wherein each reinforcing bar member is formed from an aluminum material whereby structural strength, load-carrying capacity, and extended load-carrying capacity are established with respect to the outer and the inner slide members.

  • Patent number: 4028949
Abstract: A synchronizing mechanism comprising at least two flat strips of friction material (bristles) co-acting with at least one intermediate member formed by an endless belt of friction material (bristles) having belt supporting means. When the strips are moved longitudinally or linearly relative to each other, the endless belt also moves longitudinally between said strips. With such movement, the bristles at the looped ends of the belt progressively roll into and out of engagement with the bristles of the strips. However, the parts of the band intermediate the ends thereof, frictionally resist linear or longitudinal movement between said strips thereby synchronize movement between said strips.

  • Patent number: 4013259
Abstract: A mold apparatus for forming various sizes and shapes of wax castings to provide a means for producing rings in volume therefrom, wherein the mold apparatus comprises a drum member defining the main mold housing having a casting bore of a pre-determined configuration disposed therein, the housing being provided with a pair of removable end plates, the plates being held in place by a tubular support mandrel passing through the cavity and the end plates; wherein a ring-sizing band can be received within the cavity to control the overall size and thickness of the wax casting; and wherein there is included a finger-sizing band adapted to be mounted on the tubular support mandrel within the casting cavity, whereby the selection and arrangement of various sized bands will form numerous ring configurations and sizes when hot wax is injected through an injector inlet port formed between the drum and one of the end plates.

  • Patent number: 4007791
Abstract: Method of recovery of crude oil from oil bearing formations and/or sands especially where the oil in such formations have been partly exhausted or depleted and will flow into the wells drilled into such formations at a very slow rate or not at all due to the high degree of viscosity of the oil. The method comprises thinning the crude oil in the formation by introducing into the oil well a thinning fluid, such as a solvent or mixture of solvents that will flow into the formation and thin the oil in the formation sufficiently so that it will flow into the well. A further step is heating the solvent either before the solvent is introduced into the well or after it is in the well and pressurizing the well to increase the penetration of the solvent into the formation. One method of heating the solvent in the well is to introduce water into the well, allow the solvent to rise to the surface of the water and introduce sodium into the well to cause a reaction with the water for producing heat and pressure.

  • Patent number: 3981166
Abstract: A bicycle locking apparatus that is permanently, easily and quickly attachable to a bicycle frame. There is a housing having sides which extend upwardly beyond the top thereof and also rearwardly of the rear end of the housing. The side parts that extend upwardly and rearwardly of the housing form channels into which the horizontal frame member and the downwardly and forwardly inclined frame member are respectively received. In the upper channel, a strip of resilient material is secured by any suitable type of adhesive such as an epoxy cement and extending from the rear wall of the housing into the rear channel is a similar material which is secured to the rear wall of the housing by epoxy cement or any other suitable means. There are upwardly opening recesses at the top and rearwardly opening recesses at the rear. Locking strips are secured to the inner sides of the wall parts to define part of the recesses and have outwardly or lanced tongues or ears which extend into the recesses.

  • Patent number: 3971271
Abstract: A wrench for surgical use including a housing having an extension at the end of which there is a socket member having a slot through the wheel thereof with the socket member aligned with the corresponding slot in the free end of the extension to permit a nut on an extremely threaded rod to pass into the socket. The socket is peripherally toothed for engagement by a pair of worm gears disposed at respective sides of the socket member so that there is always driving engagement between the worm gears and socket member for rotating the socket member. Crank operated gears are exposed in the housing and are connected by drive shafts of the worm gears.A slidable nut retainer is disposed at each side of the extension and each is provided with a notch for reception of the threaded rod; the parts of the slidable nut retainer at the side of the notches, overlap the nut to prevent it from coming out of the socket.

  • Patent number: 3966273
Abstract: A telescoping or linear motion ball bearing synchronized slide mechanisms having inner and outer slide members held together by ball bearings, the balls being operably disposed in a ball retainer between the inner and outer slide members and means for precisely maintaining the relationship of these parts. This means comprising strips of friction material secured to the inner sides of the inner and outer slide members and extending longitudinally of these slide members. The ball retainer has longitudinally spaced openings with rollers or holders operably mounted to the ball retainer at these openings and a continuous or endless flexible band of friction material is mounted on these rollers and extends longitudinally of the ball retainer.
