Patent number: 4052717Abstract: A battery condition monitoring device which senses battery terminal voltage and creates a function thereof and tests that function against predetermined criteria and determines battery condition as a result of such tests. Furthermore, the invention operates on the transient of the battery terminal voltage existant immediately upon the loading of the battery. The test is performed on the slope of the terminal voltage transient and a function of that transient during a test period is created, analyzed and evaluated against reference levels.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1975Date of Patent: October 4, 1977Assignee: Goodyear Aerospace CorporationInventors: John B. Arnold, John M. Bowyer, Howard R. Hegbar, Archie B. Shaefer

Patent number: 4018589Abstract: A form for shaping softened glass on a full-contact mold without spalling or mark-off. The invention includes a base having a plurality of threaded rods extending vertically therefrom; each rod having a trunnion threaded thereon for adjusting purposes. The trunnions make engagement with support members which maintain a mold sheet for forming the glass. The support members may have clamps on them at each end thereof for purposes of securing the mold sheet. In a preferred embodiment of the invention a lubricated plane is provided over the forming sheet; the lubricating plane preferably comprising a powder-impregnated fiber glass sheet.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1976Date of Patent: April 19, 1977Assignee: Goodyear Aerospace CorporationInventors: William D. Egbert, Wilson C. McDonald

Patent number: 4007814Abstract: An annular carbon brake disk having cast metal keyslot reinforcement members which are shaped to intimately conform to the contour of the keyslots and to an adjacent surface area of the disk on each side of the keyslots. The reinforcement members are preferably investment castings of heat resistant stainless steel or other suitable metal and the walls of the reinforcement members are substantially thicker at the portion contacting the keyslot than at the other portions of the members. The keyslot reinforcement members may be used with either continuous or segmented disks.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1976Date of Patent: February 15, 1977Assignee: Goodyear Aerospace CorporationInventor: Robert E. Patent number: 4003607Abstract: An improvement is provided for use in a wheeled vehicle having anti-skid circuitry associated with the wheels thereof. Fundamentally, the invention comprises a comparator connected to the anti-skid circuitry which products an output signal when anti-skid signals exceed a particular level for a predetermined period of time. The output of the comparator is operative for removing the application of the anti-skid control circuit from the anti-skid valves and for applying in its place a rudimentary anti-skid control circuit comprising a multivibrator of predetermined duty cycle. Thus, under all conditions, braking effort remains with the vehicle operator but under certain conditions is modulated at a predetermined rate by the multivibrator. Provisions are also made for returning the anti-skid system to normal operation in conjunction with the brake system when the output of the anti-skid system drops below the aforesaid particular level.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1976Date of Patent: January 18, 1977Assignee: Goodyear Aerospace CorporationInventors: James R. Haney, Edgar J. Ruof

Patent number: 4000791Abstract: A disk brake having a cylindrical drive member extending axially from one side flange of a wheel. The cylindrical drive member has axially extending keyslots which engage radially outwardly extending ears or keys on rotatable brake disks and cause the disks to rotate with the wheel. The keyslots are open at one end and have a reinforcement member bridging the open end of the keyslots to provide added hoop strength to the cylindrical drive member. The reinforcement member is preferably a circular metal band riveted to the periphery of the drive member adjacent the open end of the keyslots.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1976Date of Patent: January 4, 1977Assignee: Goodyear Aerospace CorporationInventor: James J. Kovac

Patent number: 3993926Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for determining the presence and position of a moving object within a static field. Basically, the invention utilizes a photocathode in combination with a storage mesh whereby a distributive charge may be stored upon the mesh indicative of light levels within the field. Positive and negative write operations are exercised at different points in time and are superimposed upon the storage mesh. The mesh is then read by means of deflection coils in combination with an aperture plate so as to sequentially scan the storage mesh and emit output signals correlated with the charges upon the mesh after positive and negative write cycles have been exercised. The invention incorporates the fundamental structures of an optical image correlator tube and an image dissector tube.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1974Date of Patent: November 23, 1976Assignee: Goodyear Aerospace CorporationInventors: Bernard C. Rauckhorst, Harry O. Pfeiffer

Patent number: 3988602Abstract: A technique and apparatus for enhancing the data upon a film transparency is presented. The density characteristics of the object film are digitized and shifted to exponentially increase the magnitude and significance of the digitized data. This amplified data is then utilized for producing a second film transparency having increased contrast in accordance with the amplification of the original data. There is also provided means for offsetting the digitized data with respect to a fixed reference such that features of interest may be separated from their background before the final recording of the enhanced film.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1975Date of Patent: October 26, 1976Assignee: Goodyear Aerospace CorporationInventor: Thadeus E. Gorsica, Jr.

Patent number: 3987419Abstract: Disclosed is a unique high speed information processing system capable of storing and operating on large volumes of data without the necessity of complicated data file systems or sophisticated programming techniques. Fundamentally, the invention combines an associative processor having a content-addressable memory with a parallel disc magnetic memory. The disc memory is utilized for the bulk storage of data while the associative processor is utilized for performing logical and arithmetic operations on the data. Data transfers between the associative processor and the disc memory are controlled by a servomechanism and an interface circuit. The servomechanism guarantees that the disc memory will operate at a speed synchronous with signals created by the associative processor and the interface circuit, under the control of the associative processor, manipulates data transfers between the disc memory and the associative processor.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1974Date of Patent: October 19, 1976Assignee: Goodyear Aerospace CorporationInventors: Charles D. Morrill, Willard C. Meilander

Patent number: 3986118Abstract: A wheel speed transducer for sensing the rotational speed of a wheel about an axle which fundamentally includes a housing fixed to the axle and containing therein two permanent magnets. The magnets are arranged such that an elongated pole piece commonly abuts first surfaces of each of the magnets, such surfaces being of like polarity. Two inductive coils having flux-conductive cores axially passing therethrough abut each of the magnets on second surfaces thereof, the second surfaces of the magnets again being of like polarity with respect to each other and of opposite polarity with respect to the first surfaces. There are further provided two additional pole pieces, one connected to the end of each of the cores opposite the ends of the cores which abut the magnets.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1975Date of Patent: October 12, 1976Assignee: Goodyear Aerospace CorporationInventor: Basil M.
