Abstract: An electromagnetic coil construction consisting of a bobbin having a primary winding and a secondary winding, the bobbin having an end flange at either end of the hub and a central separator flange intermediately spaced between the first and second flanges, the separator flange having a through opening into which a thermal sensing device electrically, interconnected in series with the primary winding or a secondary winding is adapted to be interposed whereby the device is in physical contact with both the primary and the secondary winding to interrupt the circuit upon overheating of either or both windings.
Abstract: Process and means for the removal of iron rust from cast iron borings or chips to prepare the same for melting. The process involves the heating and agitation of such borings or chips, converting the rust of the same to magnetite and chemically uncombined water, eliminating the water from the chips or borings, screening the particles to remove the converted material, charging the balance of the substantially oxide free borings into a melting furnace, wherein the rate of the charge and the melting temperatures can be maintained substantially constant during the melting process to provide a uniform slag-free operation.
Abstract: A movable greenhouse construction adapted for use on a balcony or a patio having means for moving the greenhouse laterally parallel to the building wall containing a balcony door or patio door to permit direct access from the building to the interior of the greenhouse. After use, the movable greenhouse can be moved laterally out of the way to free the balcony or patio door for unobstructed access from the building to the balcony or patio and flush with the exterior of the building structure or closed balcony or patio door.
Abstract: The disclosure involves a self-sharpening pencil comprising a hollow housing having an integral self-contained non-rotatable fixed sharpener therein for a lead adapted to be linearly projected therethrough for filing the said lead by manually reciprocable lead carrier means. The lead is adapted to be linearly guided by means located within the housing and a reservoir or collection chamber is provided for filings within said housing.
Abstract: A cover for an air conditioning unit or the like comprising an open box-like rectangular formed weather tight closure adapted to enclose an end of the said unit when installed in a wall opening such as a window, said closure having cooperating side and end wall portions forming a tunnel about the outer periphery thereof, at least one rigid member threaded through said tunnel, having wound ends projecting outwardly thereof, fastening means adapted to adjustably secure said wound ends together to substantially exert uniform tightening effect about the sides of the air conditioning unit to hold the closure snugly upon the outer periphery of the unit and to keep the conditioner closed thus preventing flow of air therethrough into the adjacent room and to protect the unit from the elements, such as rain, snow and wind.
Abstract: A receptacle having an imperforate bottom has a perforated, horizontal wall spaced upwardly from the bottom and dividing the receptacle into upper and lower compartments. Tubes project through the perforated wall and extend upwardly above the upper edge of the receptacle and downwardly to the bottom of said receptacle. Lower end portions of the tubes below the horizontal wall are also perforated. The upper compartment is adapted to receive soil and the lower compartment receives excess water which evaporates through the tubes and keeps the soil moist.
Abstract: Process for bleaching wooden articles by sequentially treating the articles with sodium carbonate, a hydrogen peroxide mist, and weak acid, with intermediate drying operations.
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a power control unti for controlling the voltage and power delivered to a single phase load, said control unit being preferably employed with loads whose impedance changes but slightly over the work cycle. The circuit utilizes a diode rectifier and a controlled rectifier connected in parallel therewith connected in series with capacitance and achieves transient-free and harmonic-free power control.
Abstract: An improved precipitation hardening or maraging stainless steel for use in Tubular Sporting Implements, particularly golf shafts containing chromium, molybdenum and nickel, the sum of said chromium, molybdenum and nickel being at least 18% and not exceeding 25%, at least one element selected from the group consisting of aluminum and titanium in a maximum of 1.30%, carbon in a maximum amount of 0.06%, manganese 0.50% maximum, silicon 0.30% maximum, the balance being essentially iron and incidental impurities.
Abstract: A radio frequency antenna comprising a shaft fabricated from dielectric material, and first and second conducting means disposed on the exterior surface of the shaft, the conducting means including linear conductors located on opposite sides of one portion of the shaft and intertwined insulated coils on a second portion of the shaft connected to the respective linear conductors. Tuning members can be connected to the conducting means for selectively changing the resonant frequency of the antenna.
Abstract: A hair arranging accessory in the form of a flattened annulus or band of semirigid sheet material can be opened to receive a strand of hair and compressed to grip the strand. An inside surface portion of the annulus is provided with a gripping surface to inhibit slipping of the strand, and a pin is projected through apertures in the annulus wall and the hair of a user. The accessory affords means to form an instant and secure hairdo as well as a solid, attractive base for attachment of a hairpiece.
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a portable crane having a boom and lower brace supporting an elongated lead adapted to carry a pile driver, drill or other tool. The outer end of the brace has a capstan drive connected to a lead supporting line whereby the brace is movable vertically independently of the lead.
Abstract: A cordless earth tiller has a housing mounted upon wheels and including a handle for guiding and controlling the tiller and tilting the same in a fore-and-aft direction. A power driven crankshaft disposed forwardly of the wheels carries a plurality of arms which depend from crankpins of the crankshaft and are provided at their lower ends with tines. Links are pivotally connected at one end to the arms and at the other end to an axle of the wheels whereby rotation of the crankshaft causes a tilling or cultivating motion of the tines. The tines sequentially impinge upon the ground in a substantially vertical direction and proceed through the ground at a rearward inclination to draw the tiller through the ground in response to rotation of the crankshaft. Modifications comprise the use of harrowing disks as wheels and the substitution of ice chipping tools for the tines, etc.
