  • Patent number: 4604313
Abstract: The invention generally provides for formation of meltblown material containing wood fiber on to a continuous foraminous belt. During formation a polymer and wood fiber first layer is applied to a moving belt from at least one bank of meltblown forming apparatus. This first layer does not contain superabsorbent. The belt carrying the first layer passes beneath at least one further source of meltblown fiber into which superabsorbent is added along with the wood fibers. This provides at least one additional layer integrally connected to the first-formed layer and having superabsorbent properties. The first layer acts to aid in trapping of any superabsorbent which is not immediately entangled in the meltblown and wood fibers and prevents it passing through the forming belt.

  • Patent number: 4598528
Abstract: The invention provides the combination of a dispenser and a series of incontinent or catamenial pads that are connected by easily severably areas. These pads may be rolled without harmful effects to the pad. The rolled pads that are connected by severably means are suitable for combination with a dispensing container that allows them to be withdrawn a single pad at a time.In a particularly preferred embodiment an incontinent pad having elasticized edges and double baffle is connected in series by severably portions at the ends. The pad is placed into a generally cubical box and withdrawn either from the center of the roll at the top of the box or from the end of the roll at the side of the box. The container is provided with a removable section at either the top or side for the withdrawal of pads.

  • Patent number: 4595392
Abstract: An interlabial pad as provided having a cylindrodially-shaped central portion and oppositely disposed flaps. The method for forming the interlabial pad involves folding a pad blank along the central longitudinal axis and gathering and attaching the blank at spaced-apart portions below the fold line to form a cylindrodially shaped central member with flaps depending radially therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4585448
Abstract: The invention is generally accomplished by providing a disposable garment comprising a liquid impervious backing sheet, a liquid pervious body-side liner sheet, and an integral absorbent pad disposed between the liner and cover sheets. The absorbent pad is provided with a high absorbency area extending from the crotch region toward the center of the front waist of the garment. It is preferred that about 65 percent of the total absorbent be in the front half of the diaper with the about 40 percent of the total in the high absorbency area.

  • Patent number: 4585450
Abstract: A refastenable tape member (20) for disposable garments comprising a stationary release element (50) secured to the garment, a secondary tape element (30) including an adhesive layer (33) with a portion (34) adhered to the garment and another portion (35) free thereof, and a primary tape element (40) having a lower surface (44) with a major portion (A) releasably joined to the secondary tape element and a minor portion (B) adhesively bonded to the secondary tape element. The primary tape element (40) has an adhesive layer (43) which is releasably joined to the stationary release element (50) when in a storage position. To effect the first closure of the garment, the primary tape element (40) is separated from the release element (50); the adhesive bond between the secondary and primary tape elements (30, 40) along minor portion (B) assures dependable separation of the primary tape element (40) from the release element (50) for this purpose.

  • Patent number: 4579556
Abstract: The invention generally provides a pad that has a double system of baffles at the edges. The pad is composed of an outer impervious backing sheet, an inner absorbent layer, and a body-side permeable web. The impervious backing sheet is of greater dimensions than the absorbent and is folded over the permeable web and absorbent layer and fastened to the permeable web. Further, at least a portion of the folded-over portion is elasticized at a distance spaced from the absorbent material such that when the elastic contracts, the pad bows with the elasticized fold raising above the surface of the pad to form a baffle. This results in a dual baffle structure wherein the lower baffle is formed over the absorbent and also an upstanding baffle containing the elastic is formed that extends above the surface of the pad.

  • Patent number: 4578066
Abstract: The invention relates to a pad that has as the outer impervious layer a polymer sheet integrally bonded to a fabric material such that the fabric material is on the exterior of the polymer sheet. The fabric is exposed on the body side of the pad when the edges of the pad are wrapped with the impervious liner to form baffles. The absorbent material forming the inner portion of the pad is integrally connected to a pervious body-side liner material. The connection of pervious liner to absorbent is such that when the pad is manipulated the pervious liner material stays in contact with the absorbent material and aids in transfer of liquid through the pervious liner into the absorbent. The fabric forming part of the impervious layer is preferably hydrophobic.

  • Patent number: 4570518
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for slitting of continuous webs into ribbons. The apparatus is composed of a series of cutters, preferably of the crush-cutter type that are slidably mounted on a support such as rail or series of rails. The cutters are each provided with a mounting bracket. The mounting bracket on each cutter is adapted to receive two individual adjustment devices. The adjustment devices are provided to individually and rigidly connect each adjacent cutter. In the preferred system, the individual adjustment devices are threaded studs with a center adjustment nut that is turned to bring the cutters closer or provide greater distance between them. Adjustment of any single stud leads to movement of the whole series of cutters as the individual devices between the other cutters will maintain their distance between adjacent cutters, and the cutters will slide upon the mounting rails.
