Abstract: A computer is connected to redundant network switches by primary and secondary connections, respectively. Test messages are sent across each connection to the attached switches. A break in a connection, or a faulty connection, is detected upon a failed response to one of the test messages. In response to this failure, traffic is routed across the remaining good connection. To facilitate fast protocol rerouting, a test message is sent across the now active connection bound for the switch connected to the failed connection. This message therefor traverses both switches causing each to learn the new routing. Rerouting is therefor accomplished quickly.

Abstract: In a dangerous condition sensing alarm system which includes a plurality of interconnected dangerous condition sensing units, such as smoke detectors, of the general type in which each unit responds to an apparently sensed dangerous condition by issuing an audible alarm and also by transmitting, from an input/output terminal, a signal to the other units (received as an external alarm signal at corresponding input/output terminals of the other units) so that an alarm condition sensed by any one of the units results in alarms being sounded by all the units, a unit initiating an alarm (which may be false) is marked by an alarm origination circuit. The alarm origination circuit includes a visual indicator (such as an LED) and a latch device (such as an SCR) connected in-circuit such that, when the SCR is turned "on", the LED is activated and remains lit until the SCR is turned "off".
Abstract: In an appliance such as an oven for cooking food, the invention contemplates a user rotatable, single knob oven control device which provides both discrete and continuous control signals to the appliance controller. The discrete outputs indicate selection of oven features, and the continuous output the desired baking temperature. These inputs are selected by a user in response to rotation of a user interface knob mounted on a control panel. The control panel provides visual indication of oven cooking temperature selections through a first arc around the knob, and user selectable oven features (such as, e.g., OFF/CANCEL, BROIL, and CLEAN) in a second arc around the knob. The control device comprises a hub having a portion adapted to be drivably coupled to the user interface knob. The hub also includes a flange which has at least one cam. The device also includes a variable resistance element having a rotatable shaft in driving engagement with the hub.

Abstract: A current source circuit includes a variable impedance circuit coupling the returns of dual-floating power sources, and is configured to limit maximum current output in the event of fault and facilitate detection thereof. The first power source powers the current loop using its source, with the current loop returning through the second power source's return. Control circuitry detects an increase in current beyond the predetermined maximum and appropriately increases the impedance between the first and second power sources returns to limit current provided to the current output to the predetermined maximum. This amount of current is detected by, for example, analog to digital conversion and the fault can thereby be appropriately signaled.
Abstract: A latching coil valve device is provided, comprising a body providing an inlet and an outlet; an actuatable valve unit connecting said inlet to said outlet, and latching mechanisms for latching the actuatable valve unit in open or closed positions, respectively. The actuatable valve unit comprises a solenoid and a pilot operated valve comprising a primary valve member and a pilot valve member. The solenoid comprises a coil assembly and a plunger assembly. Energizing the coil of the solenoid moves the plunger to open and close the valve. The latching mechanism for latching the actuatable valve unit in the open position comprises a permanent magnet and the latching mechanism for latching the actuatable valve unit in the closed position comprises a coil spring. Only a momentary pulse of voltage needs to be applied to the coil of the solenoid in order open or close the valve. Once in the opened or closed positions, the permanent magnet or the coil spring, respectively, latches the valve.

Abstract: An electronic control circuit (10) for a gas oven including a hot surface igniter (24) which is heated through the application of electrical current to a temperature sufficient to ignite gas supplied through an electrically actuable gas valve (26). The applied current is regulated by a micro-controller (20) which controllably gates on a triac (14) while taking into consideration a sensed current level.
