  • Patent number: 4178094
Abstract: An apparatus which prevents lateral movement of a belt moving in a pre-determined path. The apparatus includes a readily deformable surface which moves the belt in the pre-determined path and a support for preventing lateral movement. Strains induced in the belt by preventing the lateral movement thereof distort the deformable surface which, in turn, cause the belt to return to the pre-determined path.

  • Patent number: 4175314
Abstract: An apparatus in which at least two sheets are stapled to one another. The apparatus includes a controller which places a pressure source in communication with a staple drive so that pressurized fluid actuates the staple drive to drive a staple through the sheets. Thereafter, the controller places the staple drive in communication with a staple clincher so that the pressurized fluid exhausting from the staple drive actuates the staple clincher to clinch the portion of the staple legs protruding through the sheets.

  • Patent number: 4174171
Abstract: An apparatus in which the lateral alignment of a belt arranged to move in a pre-determined path is controlled. A support mounted resiliently constrains lateral movement of the belt causing the belt to apply a moment to a pivotably mounted steering post. As a result of this moment, the steering post pivots in a direction to restore the belt to the pre-determined path.

  • Patent number: 4173294
Abstract: An apparatus in which particles are advanced from a storage container through a tube having a plurality of apertures therein. The particles are moved along the tube by paddles secured to a shaft so as to be discharged through the apertures in the tube. The shaft is mounted reciprocably and rotatably within the tube. In this manner, the paddles engage the particles during its forward movement while being spaced therefrom during the return to its initial position.

  • Patent number: 4147645
Abstract: There is described an electrophotographic toner comprising a resin material and as an additive a sterically hindered phenol, that is a phenol that has its atoms arranged in a particular manner in a molecule and does not undergo an expected chemical reaction due to inhibition by particular atomic groupings. These phenols are effective as thermal stabilizers for toner resins in that they reduce the rate of thermal decomposition and/or act as plasticizers in that they lower the toner melt viscosities and fusing temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4139296
Abstract: An apparatus in which particles are mixed. The particles are disposed in an inner member having an outer member spaced therefrom and positioned concentrically thereover. A helical magnetic pole pattern is impressed on the outer member. Relative angular rotation between the outer member and the inner member translates the particles generating mixing therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4136637
Abstract: A development apparatus in which the donor member has a pattern of depressed regions therein. The donor member moves developer material into contact with a sheet of support material disposed adjacent an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive surface. Inasmuch as the donor member has a pattern of depressed regions therein, the developer material is deposited on the sheet of support material in a half-tone pattern.

  • Patent number: 4131357
Abstract: An apparatus in which a plurality of developing rollers deposit particles on a latent image. The developing rollers are activated and de-activated sequentially in response to the leading edge and trailing edge, respectively, of a latent image being closely adjacent to the rollers. The developer particles are transported from a storage chamber by at least one transport roller to at least one pair of feed rollers prior to its transfer to the developer rollers. A device for controlling the amount of developer particles transported by the transport roller to the feed rollers is positioned closely adjacent to the feed rollers.

  • Patent number: 4130841
Abstract: An apparatus in which an original document is reproduced. The original document is scanned to determine the tonal graduations thereof and a signal generated indicative thereof. An image of the original document having a plurality of half-tone dot spacial frequencies is formed. Each half-tone dot spacial frequency is selected from a plurality of selected spacial frequencies corresponding to a pre-determined signal range. In this manner, the selected half-tone dot spacial frequencies are a function of the signal indicating the tone graduations of the original document.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThis invention relates generally to an electrophotographic printing machine, and more particularly concerns a printing machine arranged to reproduce an original document as a copy having the half-tone dot frequency thereof dependent upon the tonal graduations of the original document. In a typical electrophotographic printing machine, a photoconductive member is charged to a substantially uniform level.

  • Patent number: 4121947
Abstract: Charged residual toner is removed from a photoreceptor by simultaneously (1) exposing the photoconductive layer of the photoreceptor to light, (2) charging the photoconductive layer to the same polarity as that of the toner, (3) vibrating the photoreceptor to dislodge the toner by entraining the photoreceptor about a roller while rotating the roller about an eccentric axis, and (4) subjecting the toner to a force (e.g. vacuum or gravity) which draws the toner away from the photoreceptor.
