Abstract: Disclosed is a process for reducing the fouling in a heat exchanger in which a hydrocarbon stream is heated or cooled as it passes through the heat exchanger. From 1 to 500 parts per million of an organic hydroxylamine is added to the stream to reduce fouling.
Abstract: Additives for the control of deposits in the intake systems of engines are provided. The additives comprise hydroxy polyether amines of the general formula: ##STR1## Also provided are a fuel composition containing from about 250 ppm to 5000 ppm of this additive and a concentrate containing this additive.
Abstract: An open-graded emulsified asphalt paving mix is provided comprising a major portion of open-graded aggregate and a minor portion of cationic or anionic bituminous emulsion, the mix containing a minor portion of a polyelectrolyte having the opposite electric charge from that of the asphalt emulsifier which imparts excellent water resistance properties to pavement prepared from the mix. A method for producing the polyelectrolyte in situ is also provided.
Abstract: Deposit control additives to maintain cleanliness in internal combustion engines are provided. The additives are hydrocarbyl-terminated poly(oxyalkylene) aminohydrocarbyloxyhydrocarbyl carbamates, also referred to as polyether aminoether carbamates.
Abstract: Disclosed is a catalytic process for the production of higher molecular weight hydrocarbons from lower molecular weight hydrocarbons. More particularly, disclosed is a catalytic process for the conversion of methane to C.sub.2 + hydrocarbons, particularly hydrocarbons rich in ethylene or benzene, or both. The process utilizes a boron compound containing catalyst, high reaction temperature of greater than 1000.degree. C., and a high gas hourly space velocity of greater than 3200 hr.sup.-1.
Abstract: Precipitation of a zinc dialkyldithiophosphate prepared from a mixture of about 50 to 90 mole percent of a lower alcohol plus 50 to 10 mole percent of a higher alcohol may be prevented by the addition to the composition of from about 0.5 to 10.0 percent by weight of an alkyl or alkenyl mono- or bis-succinimide.
Abstract: The anti-wear properties of lubricating oil compositions containing overbased calcium sulfonate are improved when a complex of a zinc salt of a cyclic hydrocarbyl dithiophosphoric acid of 2,4-pentanediol and a succinimide is added to the oil. Oil compositions containing this combination are useful as crankcase lubricants.
Abstract: Disclosed is a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity having dispersed therein a minor amount of an additive composition comprising a mixture of: (a) a hydrated alkali metal borate; (b) an oil-soluble sulfur-containing compound; and (c) a zirconium salt.
Abstract: A method for producing air-blown industrial asphalt using asphalt, ethylene/vinyl-acetate copolymer and an air-blowing catalyst is disclosed. The EVA copolymer is present in a weight percent of from 1 weight percent to 10 weight percent. Also disclosed is the asphalt composition resulting from the air-blowing method.
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the preparation of substituted carboxylic acids and their derivatives in which the synthesis reaction is carried out at least partially thermally in the presence of a furan-type compound. The furan-type compound substantially increases yields and reduces the formation of undesirable resinous by-products.
Abstract: Oil-insoluble zinc salts of cyclic dithiophosphates are rendered oil soluble when combined to form a complex with alkenyl or alkyl mono- or bis-succinimides. Oil compositions containing this combination are useful as crankcase lubricants.
Abstract: A process for air blowing asphalt in the presence of organic sulfonic acids and an asphalt composition comprising a major amount of asphalt and a minor but effective amount of organic sulfonic acid.
Abstract: Additives for lubricating oils for internal combustion engines which contribute dispersancy and detergency to the lubricating oils are disclosed. The additives are hydrocarbylpoly(oxyalkylene) polyamine ethanes comprising a hydrocarbyl-terminated poly(oxyalkylene) chain of 2-5 carbon oxyalkylene units bonded to an ethane or substituted ethane chain in turn bonded to a nitrogen atom of a polyamine having from 2 to 12 amine nitrogens and from 2 to 40 carbon atoms with a carbon:nitrogen ratio between 1:1 and 10:1.
Abstract: Novel glycolate diesters of dithiophosphoric acid and salts of such esters suitable as additives in oil compositions are disclosed. Oil compositions containing the salts of such esters show improved extreme pressure/anti-wear and antioxidant properties.
