  • Patent number: 4396813
Abstract: Circuit interrupter switchgear including a drawout unit mounted within an enclosure and operable between engaged and disengaged positions by means of a drive means having a two-way position actuated drive clutch. The position actuated drive clutch has an engaging means that is responsive to a sensing means for selectively engaging and disengaging a torque source with the drive means according to predetermined positions of the drawout unit.

  • Patent number: 4370511
Abstract: A gas insulated transmission line having radially flexible field control means for reducing the electric field along the periphery of the inner conductor at predetermined locations wherein the support insulators are located. The radially flexible field control means of the invention includes several structural variations of the inner conductor, wherein careful controlling of the length to depth of surface depressions produces regions of reduced electric field. Several embodiments of the invention dispose a flexible connector at the predetermined location along the inner conductor where the surface depressions that control the reduced electric field are located.

  • Patent number: 4359599
Abstract: Two improvements to the electrical conductor connection disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,163,869. The first is a new and improved process for forming by means of multiple timed MIG arc welding, an electrical connection between at least two lapped aluminum conductors, wherein neither conductor member has a pilot hole, thereby eliminating preforming and alignment requirements. The improved process produces the same full penetration weld with the same highly desirable substantially cylindrical weld nugget as the process of U.S. Pat. No. 4,163,869 with a preformed pilot hole does. The second improvement is a new and superior electrical conductor connection and a method of forming same between at least two lapped aluminum conductors. The connection so formed includes a weld nugget having a substantially rectangular cross-sectional configuration at the interface. The rectangular shape of the weld nugget at the interface increases the mechanical torque capacity and the electrical conductivity of the connection.

  • Patent number: 4354830
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting ceramic insulator greenware including container means for supporting the ceramic insulator greenware in a first position and integral spacing means integrally connected with the container means for supporting the container means in a second position. One embodiment of the invention supports the ceramic insulator greenware such that the lower flange of the weather shed of the ceramic insulator greenware is supported above the apparatus so as not to interfere with the glazing coat. Refractory fire brick normally used for spacing and the labor involved in placing and leveling the fire brick/support arrangement is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4348176
Abstract: Apparatus for supporting an insulator or a plurality of insulators having a support means for supporting the insulators at a predetermined position and an integral spacing means integrally connected to the support means for supporting another support means to provide for stacking of a plurality of apparatus. The support means includes a base having a plurality of recesses therein for receiving a mounting portion of a typical insulator and supporting it in a predetermined position. The spacing means includes integral supports projecting upward a predetermined distance from the periphery of the base and an external peripheral wall enclosed upon itself extending upward a second predetermined distance from the periphery of the base, the first and second predetermined distances being selected to provide for adequate ventilation of the insulators. Being self-supporting the apparatus eliminates secondary support materials that are normally required.

  • Patent number: 4330270
Abstract: Apparatus for firing ceramic greenware including a container and a plurality of independently movable granules disposed within the container so as to provide a readily levelable minimum friction support surface for supporting the ceramic greenware. During firing, those granules which contact the greenware move in correspondence with the shrinkage of the greenware so that friction related distortion of the greenware is reduced. The ceramic greenware is fired by a method which includes providing a sufficient depth of granules to permit relative movement of those granules in contact with the ceramic greenware, leveling the surface of the granules, placing the greenware on the level surface and firing the ceramic greenware.

  • Patent number: 4249170
Abstract: A power transformer having a magnetic core winding assembly disposed within a casing, which contains multiple sensing means to sense abnormalities in fault conditions of the transformer, and an annunciator, having electro-mechanical relay circuits responsive to the sensing means for energizing an alarm circuit. The electromechanical relay circuits are arranged to provide two or more alarm point indication circuits, a pulse circuit and a bistable switching circuit adapted to energize external protective apparatus. The pulse circuit translates one or more sensing means signals of undetermined duration to a single "pulse" signal of predetermined duration. This pulse signal is used to control a switching circuit with a contact connected to operate external protective devices such as an audible alarm. The pulse circuit provides for isolation of the indication circuits from the switching circuit such that each may be reset independently of one another.
