Abstract: An apparatus and method for completing a call between an originating switch and a destination switch in a telecommunications network supporting number portability. The method and apparatus use a ported number list or a routing cache in a network switch or adjunct processor to avoid inefficiencies of QOR and N-1 call processing procedures. The invention includes an originating switch for completing a call between the originating switch and a destination switch, the originating switch including structure for storing a ported number list or routing cache, structure for searching the ported number list or routing cache, and structure for routing a call to the destination switch.
Abstract: Disclosed is a combinational logic arrangement for use in a data processor that selectively performs a plurality of bit manipulations or logic operations including shift, rotate, and insert under mask. The arrangement is controlled by a single instruction format which specifies the parameters needed for each of the operations. The logic arrangement interprets a data word as a bit string with two boundary lines that divide the string into three regions: left region, quantum region and right region. The logic circuit operates upon the left and/or right regions of an output word to either clear all bits, set all bits, propagate the sign bit of an input word or retain the information in the left and right regions of an input data word. The circuit then inserts a quantum of bits obtained from a specified region of another input data word into the output data word starting at any desired location.

Abstract: A diagnostic controller is situated with a pair of duplicated logic units which themselves are remotely situated in relation to a controlling data processing unit. A distinct data path is provided between each of the remote logic units and the data processing unit for the conveyance of control information therebetween. When a remote logic unit appears to malfunction, the data processing unit takes the associated data path out-of-service and transmits commands over the in-service data path to start the diagnostic controller. Responsive to these commands, the diagnostic controller autonomously simulates data received over the out-of-service data path and applies the simulated data to the suspect remote logic unit. Results from this suspect unit are compared by the diagnostic controller with anticipated results wherein a mismatch indicates an actual malfunction in the suspect unit. Any detected malfunctions are reported to the data processing unit over the in-service data path.

Abstract: A diagnostic system is disclosed for detecting malfunctions in the access circuitry utilized to control the reading, writing, and refreshing of a plurality of semiconductor memory modules. More specifically, a pair of access circuits are provided for each module with each access circuit only controlling the accessing of predetermined bits of each word stored in that module. During read or write operations, the output signals generated by each of the two access circuits for application to the memory elements in that module are "compared" to ensure that the memory elements are being properly accessed. During refresh operations, the outputs of each pair of access circuits are also "matched" to ensure the integrity of the refresh operation.
