Abstract: A hinge structure for interconnecting a swing door to a trailer body or the like and which allows the door to breakaway form the trailer body when an excessive shear force is applied to the hinge indicative of the door impacting against a surface or improperly engaging an adjacent trailer body.
Abstract: A multipiece excavating tooth assembly including an adapter, a digging or excavating tooth, and retaining pin structure for interconnecting the adapter and tooth in operable combination relative to each other. The tooth and adapter have a uniquely configured interface or conjuncture therebetween. Moreover, the conjuncture between the digging tooth and adapter is configured to advantageously orientate the retaining pin structure to avoid those problems inherent with conventional vertical and horizontal pin systems.
Abstract: A compression spring formed from an elastomer member having a ratio of plastic strain to elastic strain that is greater than 1.5 to 1 is disclosed. The elastomer spring member defines an elongated axis between opposed ends of the spring and has a molecular structure. A periphery of the elastomer member has a series of axially spaced annular portions of increased cross-sectional area with an annular waistline portion disposed between adjacent annular portions of increased cross-sectional area to provide the elongated member with a series of axially spaced hourglass configurations arranged in end-to-end relation relative to each other. The hourglass configurations along the periphery of the elastomer member allowing the elastomeric spring to collapse upon itself during compression thereof while maintaining a substantially constant outside diameter for the areas of increased cross-sectional area.
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling operation of a railcar discharge gate assembly including a frame defining a discharge opening with a gate slidably arranged on the frame for movement along a predetermined path of travel between open and closed positions. The apparatus of the present invention includes an operating shaft rotatably supported on the frame for selectively moving the gate between open and closed positions in response to rotation of the shaft. A lock assembly is carried on the frame and is operably coupled to the operating shaft. The lock assembly includes a displacable stop member which, when the gate is closed, extends into the path of travel of the gate to prevent movement of the gate relative to the frame, and which moves in timed relation relative to movement of the gate such that upon rotation of the operating shaft to move the gate to an open position the stop member is automatically removed from the path of travel of the gate prior to movement of the gate toward an open position.
