Patent number: 4753382Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for inserting components into workpieces, particularly for insertion of electrical components into printed circuit boards. Multiple component magazines are provided on a shuttle which places the desired component beneath an inserter. The inserter moves through a limited reciprocation to pick up a component from the shuttle, and the shuttle is withdrawn from the path of the inserter. The inserter then moves downward to insert the component. The inserter includes an ejector which maintains contact with the inserted component during withdrawal of the inserter. The ejector includes a shock absorber which gives way if unusual resistance is met during insertion. The shock absorber is spring-biased, and the degree of stiffness of the spring is adjustable.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1984Date of Patent: June 28, 1988Assignee: Nova Automatic Systems, Inc.Inventors: Arun K. Patent number: 4720017Abstract: An improvement in specimen kits that reduces significantly the possibility of contamination of the specimen by either user or container; of the patient by the swab used to obtain the specimen; and of a subsequent handler of the container by the specimen. It permits the collected specimen to be transported to the diagnostic processing laboratory in common, widely used medical specimen mailing containers, while permitting the use of swab lengths that are appropriate to the type of specimen desired. The improvement is made possible by a unique double-ended stopper that maintains the specimen container sterile until use, then acts as a cap for engaging the swab shaft for withdrawal while maintaining a tight and sterile shipping container after the specimen is taken and while it is subsequently handled.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1982Date of Patent: January 19, 1988Assignee: Medical Media Laboratory, Inc.Inventor: Cornelius N. Patent number: 4712920Abstract: An improved microprocessor controller program, for soft ice cream manufacturing machines and the like, for maintaining the quality of the frozen product during times of low usage, when such products have a tendency to "age" in both consistency and flavor. The controller keeps track of the quantity of product served during a given base period, and reduces the serving temperature of the product a preselected amount each time a given quantity has not been served therein. The serving temperature is reset to the desired serving temperature whenever said given quantity has been served, thereby avoiding the quality problem which could arise if said given quantity were served at the beginning of one base period but not until the very end of the following base period, thus allowing nearly two base period to elapse without a desired reduction in temperature.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1985Date of Patent: December 15, 1987Assignee: Glacier Products, Inc.Inventors: Theodore Ames, Vernon E. Brown, Jr.

Patent number: 4645919Abstract: An improved photosensitive motion detector which detects abrupt changes within a field of view while ignoring gradual changes in ambient lighting therein. In addition, sensitivity to such changes is maintained without regard to the intensity level of the ambient light, and is not sensitive to the "flickering" of fluorescent lamps. Light from said field of view, which can contain an abrupt discontinuity therein, is focussed upon two substantially identical photocells, each of which is in parallel with one of two substantially identical photoresistors, each of which is closely optically coupled to one of two LEDs connected in parallel but in reverse polarity from a common junction to a common potential.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1985Date of Patent: February 24, 1987Inventor: Robert E. Patent number: 4551025Abstract: A soft ice cream machine which has a controller in contact with a freezing chamber. The controller is provided with temperature information from a temperature sensor, which senses when the temperature of the ice cream is approaching a temperature which could bring about freeze-up and disables the compressor until the mixture warms up a selectable amount. The controller automatically switches the refrigeration compressor and the mixer and auger to a standby condition when the controller senses that the dispensing spigot has not been actuated. The controller further senses when the temperature of the ice cream in the freezing chamber is approaching a temperature which would give an inadequately frozen product unacceptable to consumers.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1984Date of Patent: November 5, 1985Assignee: Glacier ProductsInventors: Theodore Ames, Vernon E. Brown, Jr.
