  • Patent number: 5487244
Abstract: A shutter system and method in which the shutters are normally rolled to a nominal one foot width and have an infinite length, normally no less than two feet and no more than twelve feet is disclosed. These dimensions can be modified on one foot modules. The shutters are provided with a self-secured panel lock assembly at the overlapping joints on the inside between the shutter and windows normally on two foot spacing vertically. This can be horizontal, however, in other applications. The system includes the utilization of an angle frame at the base, and an overlapping receiver as a header. End caps may be of varying shapes but normally are typical L-shaped angles. The shutters are installed by raising the same upwardly and inwardly to the overhang on the upper header, lowering the same to the point where the lower portion overlap has a keyhole slot, aligning the same, and then manually threading the panel lock assembly in place and the bottom lock screw in place.

  • Patent number: 5483771
Abstract: A modification of the Z-bar mount portion of the door hinge mount to raise the hinge mount flat portion at its upper portion where the curvilinear bridge piece is located between the insulating mount portion and the hinge portion to extend the extrusion to form a cover stop around the hinge to a point essentially flush with a plane perpendicular to the door lateral edge and overlying the hinge is disclosed. This produces a rounded pleasing cover stop which masks the hinge from the exterior. Also, it inhibits the door from opening at an angle more than 90.degree. from the closed position, which with the pneumatic closer and safety chain produces a three-way redundant system to resist the door blowing off its mount or hinge. In addition, it further blocks the access of strong winds from penetrating the areas between the knuckles of the hinge and the space between the door and mount.

  • Patent number: 5423149
Abstract: A kit including a full door piano hinge and frame mount for one lateral edge of a door is disclosed. Door edge trim for mounting on the closing side of the door may be optionally employed. While the hinge and frame mount are integral, they are reversible and hence can be positioned on either side of a door prior to mounting in the door jamb and frame. The latch assembly is then applied to either the left or the right-hand side depending upon how the door is hinged and hung. More specifically the hinge is provided with a plurality of holes in one of its leaves which permits the same to be secured to one lateral edge of the door with screws already in place awaiting the placement of the hinge. In one embodiment of the method, taken in conjunction with the door of U.S. Pat. No. 4,311,183, the lateral edge screws are relieved by one to two turns from the hinge side. The hinge leaf mounting surface is provided with keyhole slots which are positioned against the shank of the relieved screw.

  • Patent number: 5259695
Abstract: An essentially equilateral tetrahedron having essentially four equilateral sides, each of which, in turn, an equilateral triangle is disclosed. The reef module may be any size, but for practical purposes in excess of one foot on an edge, and not necessarily exceeding six feet on an edge by a significant amount. The medium primarily employed to hold the implanted tire chips in place is cement, or its equivalent. Desirably a hydraulic cement is employed because of its high strength capability as well as durability. A related aspect of the present invention looks to the provision of lifting means on each such equilateral tetrahedron to permit the same, with relatively crude equipment, to be moved about in a factory sight, on to trucks, on to barges, and off barge to its ultimate resting place at the bottom of the sea. In connection with the method of forming the modules, an open-ended three sided mold is formed in the shape of a tetrahedron with the open end up.

  • Patent number: 5242006
Abstract: A drapery weight in which a body portion and cover are snap fittingly engaged each to the other is disclosed. An open space is provided interiorly to receive whatever weights the factory or installer preselects for the given installation. Thereafter, provision is made for a wheel or circular member at the upper inner portion of the body around which the installer can readily engage the closed loop of the draw cord because the body is not totally closed. Finally, a snap-fittingly engaged cover is placed over the wheel or round portion and mates with one of the body sections to close the drapery weight as a unitary member. Snap fitting engagement is provided between the two body shells, and the cover for the rounded member, in the form of a plurality of interacting prongs between the two body shells, and a displaceable engagement for the wheel cover. Optionally a wheel is mounted on the central hub. Otherwise the hub itself is sufficient to hang the weight on the closed loop of the drapery draw cord.
