  • Patent number: 8059722
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for choosing a mode of coding from among a plurality of modes of coding for a subset of blocks included in a set of blocks. An energy function over the set of blocks for each of the modes of coding is calculated and calculation elements of the energy function are stored for at least the subset of blocks. A first mode of coding, minimizing the energy function over the set of blocks is chosen. The energy function over the subset of blocks for each of the modes of coding is thereafter calculated by using the calculation elements stored for the subset of blocks and by said subset, of a cost of coding for the modes of coding distinct from the first mode of coding. The choice of a mode of coding minimizing the energy function over the subset is then effected.

  • Patent number: 8056139
Abstract: A multicasting authorization system comprises a streaming server, an authorization server, a user system and a distribution server. The distribution server provides a multicast data stream over multicast channels. A user system requests and receives an authorization code from an authorization server to receive the multicast data stream, and provides the authorization code to a streaming server. A streaming server, coupled to both an authorization server and a user system sends start up information for accessing the multicast data stream to the user system upon validation of the authorization code. The multicast datastream is encrypted and the user system maintains a connection with the authorization server which provides a cryptographic key for use in decrypting the encrypted multicast datastream.

  • Patent number: 8031564
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for evaluating a wobble signal. Also described is a circuit for performing such method and an apparatus for reading from and/or writing to optical recording media using such method or circuit. According to the invention the method includes the steps of: determining the sign of the wobble signal, the sign indicating whether a wobble period of the wobble signal is inverted or non-inverted, generating a filtered signal by a weighted averaging of the sign over two or more wobble periods, the weighted averaging being performed by subtracting a sum of the signs obtained from a second stage of delay lines from a sum of the signs obtained from a first stage delay lines, and integrating the filtered signal.

  • Patent number: 7983493
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of adaptively selecting an optimal pixel block within an image frame. The method comprises the activity of selecting an optimal block size for fast and accurate motion estimation. The traditional block is extended into an overlapped region to form an extended pixel block. Statistical region information of the non-overlapped region and the overlapped region of the respective extended pixel block is then measured. The optimal block, either the standard (or smaller size) non-overlapped block or the boundary extended overlapped block, is then selected in response to the measured statistical region information.

  • Patent number: 7981032
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a system to monitor a patient. In some aspects, a signal representing a value of a physiological parameter is received from a monitoring device. The received value is a value that caused the monitoring device to trigger an alarm associated with the psychological parameter. A notification is determined based on the received signal and on a second signal that represents a value of a second physiological parameter. The notification is then presented to an operator.

  • Patent number: 7978761
Abstract: A method and system are provided for ordering datagrams within an encoded datastream. The system includes a parser for separating headers from each respective datagram. A decoder decodes the separated headers to determine a frame group, a frame number within the frame group, a datagram number within the frame; and a total number of datagrams within the frame. An address generator determines a position for each datagram within the datastream and orders the datagrams within the datastream in response to decoding of the header to produce a video data stream.

  • Patent number: 7902810
Abstract: A cable detection system, includes a source of an input electrical AC signal for coupling to a first lead pin of a cable connector. A detector is coupled to a different second lead pin of the cable connector. The detector detects an electrical AC output signal derived by capacitive coupling of the input electrical AC signal occurring within a cable incorporating first and second leads corresponding to the first and second lead pins. The detector further enables a determination of whether the cable is connected to the cable connector in response to an amplitude dependent characteristic of the detected AC output signal.
