  • Patent number: 6416369
Abstract: A marine vessel is propelled under maneuvering control in a selected direction and travel speed through a body of seawater, by propulsion exclusively provided for by one or more submerged towing module pods attached to the underside of the vessel hull at locations between its bow and stern. Each of such towing pods may be attached to the vessel and spaced therebelow by an elongated cable so constructed for enclosure within a drag reducing fairing. Each of such cables has internal portions thereof arranged to electrically conduct current between the marine vessel and the towing pod for controllable operation of its propulsive equipment, while transferring the mechanical towing force so produced to the vessel.

  • Patent number: 6411105
Abstract: A static DC magnetic field is externally applied to a targeted surface portion of protectively coated steel to vary the amount of microwave energy absorbed therein. Measurements of varying amounts of absorbed microwave energy are compared by coordination with corresponding measurements of the strength of the applied magnetic field varied in response to coating hidden deposit of corrosion products on the targeted surface portion of the steel, to provide a basis for detection of the corrosion involved.

  • Patent number: 6353407
Abstract: A microwave radar signal system generates separate level indicating signals for transmittal through a sounding tube into a contamination tank having a mixture of fuel and gross free water collected therein. The separate level indicating signals are thereby respectively reflected from the level of a top surface of the collected liquid mixture and a lower level of an interface between the fuel and the gross free water portions of the mixture to respectively provide data for determination of total liquid volume collected and the volumetric content of the fuel therein. The interface level location is established by means of a floatation ball disposed within the sounding tube, from which level indicating signals are reflected.

  • Patent number: 6341450
Abstract: A light-weight door panel flush with the external surface of a wall structure in its closed position sealing an opening, is mounted for displacement to an open position by hinge linkage confined to its underside. In its closed position supported on the bulkhead of the door frame bordering the opening in the wall structure, the door panel compresses a sealing gasket bonded to the bulkhead. Such compression of the gasket by the door panel is established and maintained through selectively controlled rolling pins engaged with wedges resiliently held within corrosion resistant inserts bonded to the door panel at spaced peripheral locations therein.
