  • Patent number: 8349343
Abstract: The present invention describes a novel antibacterial treatment on textile materials using polymeric core-shell particles dispersing in water. These particles are prepared from a surfactant-free emulsion polymerization according to the method of U.S. Pat. No. 6,573,313 and have average particle sizes in the range of 100 to 1000 nm in diameter. When applied to a textile article, the particles form a uniform coating, which prevents the growth of bacteria and microbes. The treatment does not affect the fabric mechanical properties, hand feeling and appearance. Antibacterial activity on cotton is maintained even after 50 times of home laundering.

  • Patent number: 8346329
Abstract: A method and apparatus for noninvasive measurement of a human body component, such as glucose, in vivo, include near infrared spectroscopy based laser sources driven at a carrier frequency lying within the characteristic absorption of the component. The apparatus also drives the laser diodes with a modulation frequency to generate a frequency difference between the measuring light and reference beam, and the interference of the two beams results in a beat frequency signal, which frequency is proportional to the optical path difference between the measuring light and the reference beam. The scattering lights from human tissue with different optical lengths are simultaneously detected and selected based on the beat frequency. The method is a convenient embodiment of the floating reference principle, which takes advantage of optical length selection.

  • Patent number: 8343396
Abstract: A pipe insulating section includes a generally cylindrical hollow phenolic foam body of substantially uniform cross section with an inner facing web and an outer facing web. The phenolic foam body is slit longitudinally to provide section halves which can be opened to facilitate wrapping around a pipe to insulate the pipe. The section halves are linked by the outer web at one side and facing ends of the section halves at the other end are faced with the inner facing web. The inner web may be of paper and the other web may be of an aluminum foil. An apparatus used in manufacturing the elongate shaped phenolic section includes an outer mold for forming the outer facing into a cylindrical shape and an inner mandrel for forming the inner facing into a cylindrical shape, which is of smaller diameter than that of the cylinder defined by the outer facing. The facings define a hollow core therebetween into which liquid foam reactants are injected through an injector.

  • Patent number: 8344770
Abstract: A PLL circuit is provided capable of reducing phase noise and facilitating design. In the PLL circuit, a PLL receives a reference frequency and an output from a VC-TCXO, performs a lock operation. In a lock state, a selector selects an output of a first divider that divides the reference frequency. When PLL detects input of reference frequency being lost or an unlock state, the PLL outputs an alarm signal to the selector. When receiving the alarm signal from the PLL, the selector switches from the output of the first divider to an output of a second divider that frequency-divides an output of the VC-TCXO, and outputs the same. Then, a PLL receives an output of the selector and an output of a VCXO and performs a lock operation.

  • Patent number: 8344816
Abstract: Provided is a fundamental wave/overtone crystal oscillator to obtain fundamental wave oscillation and overtone oscillation with one crystal unit and to optimize the excitation current depending on the fundamental wave oscillation and the overtone oscillation. The fundamental wave/overtone crystal oscillator includes a crystal unit that oscillates with fundamental waves or with overtones, and an oscillator circuit that amplifies an excitation current from the crystal unit and outputs an oscillatory frequency. A capacitor Cf and a capacitor Co are connected in parallel with the base of a transistor in the oscillator circuit as well as the emitter. A switch is provided so as to connect or disconnect the capacitor Cf with respect to the circuit in response to a switching signal. The switch turns ON when the crystal oscillator oscillates with fundamental waves, and turns OFF when the crystal oscillator oscillates with overtones.
