  • Patent number: 6612334
Abstract: An improved manually-operable outlet valve for a tank of pressurized gas, especially a tank in a pressurized breathing oxygen system in an aircraft. The valve has a valve body conventionally attachable to a standard oxygen tank. A rotatable valve stem is disposed within a threaded port in the valve body to open and close a poppet valve that mates with a seat machined in the valve body. A torque limiter comprising a stack of Belville washers is disposed between the valve stem and the poppet to prevent over-torque of the valve upon closing of the poppet against the seat. A collar surrounds the stem and rides axially with the valve stem during actuation of the valve. A lever and an electrical microswitch are mounted on the valve body.

  • Patent number: 6610935
Abstract: A force sensing module with reduced sensitivity to torque in order to accurately measure weight in the presence of longitudinal and lateral torques, comprising two or more sensing means mounted vertically with output signal means combined and adjustable to minimize longitudinal torque response. The force sensing module further comprises a vertical support for lifting and supporting a load, a support arm coupled to the vertical support for engaging and holding a load, first and second sets of strain gauges, spaced from each other and either in vertical or horizontal alignment with each other. The strain gauges are connected at one end to the vertical support and at the other end to the arm for receiving a force proportional to the load and for receiving a torque from the arm.

  • Patent number: 6600173
Abstract: In a method for forming a three dimensional interconnected structure, sets of devices on receiver and donor semiconductor substrates. The donor substrate is implanted with two or more exfoliating implants, the substrates are bonded together to form a bonded structure that is heated until a portion of the donor substrate exfoliates from the bonded structure and leaves a residual portion of the donor bonded to the receiver. To form three dimensional interconnected integrated circuits from devices formed on donor and receiver substrates, the receiver devices are covered with a protective and bonding layer. Interconnect structures extending from the surface of the protective and bonding layer to the devices of the receiver are formed, and a donor is implanted with two or more exfoliating implants.

  • Patent number: 6598807
Abstract: The present invention comprises a casing with an opened end for receiving a liquid and a holding end where the liquid is stored. Between the open end and the holding end there narrow neck. A ball is placed into the opened end of the casing, so that lodging the ball into the neck will seal the neck area so that the liquid contained within the holding area will remain in the holding area until the ball is dislodged upon impact. Attached to the opened end of the casing is a nozzle. The nozzle serves two purposes, first it assures that the liquid contained within the casing does not quickly run out of the device upon impact minimizing the spray area covered by the liquid. Additionally the nozzle contains a number of holes distributed throughout the surface of said nozzle, so that the passage of liquid through the nozzle will cause the device to flail erratically, further maximizing the area sprayed by the device.

  • Patent number: 6587670
Abstract: Pulse width modulated (“Class D”) amplifiers and controllers switching in the 50 khz to 2 MHz range generate harmonics which interfere with AM radio reception. This has precluded wide spread acceptance of class D amplifiers in products with an AM radio. The amplifiers described here use a modified modulation technique when operating with an AM radio to avoid generating harmonics at the receiver selected frequency or its intermediate (IF) frequency. One embodiment uses a harmonic avoidance modulator. A second embodiment uses two or more oscillators and tests for the least distorted output signal. A third embodiment switches the mode of operation to a class AB amplifier when an AM signal is amplified.

  • Patent number: 6576056
Abstract: A tip assembly includes a tip having a nose portion. The tip defines a central bore. The nose portion includes a lip portion and defines a counterbore. The counterbore has a counterbore side wall and a seat surface. The counterbore is contiguous with the central bore. An insert member includes an inner surface, an outer surface and a side wall. The inner surface is opposite the outer surface. The side wall interconnects the inner surface and the outer surface. The insert defines a central aperture that extends from the inner surface to the outer surface. The insert is disposed within the counterbore such that the central aperture is substantially concentric with the central bore of the tip. The lip portion of the tip engages the outer surface of the insert.

  • Patent number: 6563098
Abstract: A high-precision displacement measurement device and linear or rotational displacement measurement method using a unit displacement sensor based on a confocal theory. This device is simpler in construction, lower in cost and superior in resolution to other displacement measurement devices, and is capable of measuring a much wider area than other measurement equipment. The present device is adapted to project a spot of light from a light source on an object whose displacement is to be measured and measure a relative displacement of the object from a displacement of the projected light spot.

  • Patent number: 6533441
Abstract: An aircraft landing light assembly having a resilient vibration dampening mounting system for absorbing propeller and engine induced fuselage vibrations and the like for preventing premature vibrational induced lamp failure. Light assembly includes forward and rear rings that engage opposite faces of the rim of a sealed beam lamp located between the two rings. A resilient O-ring sits in the forward ring. Four cylindrically-shaped shock damper mounts sit in tapered wells on the back of the rear ring for protecting the sealed beam lamp from premature vibrational lamp failure, as well as for fastening the light assembly together and to the aircraft mounting bracket. Shock damper mounts include an enlarged cylindrically-shaped resilient damper material having a threaded headless screw located on each end.

  • Patent number: 6514072
Abstract: This invention is for a novel method of treating carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is a very unique material and its processing requires high temperatures. Also since carbon fibers are lightweight and porous, heating is accomplished in this process by radiation with a heated gas flowing through the material. Also a float is used to transfer the material from one process station to another so as to prevent delaminating of the carbon fiber.

  • Patent number: 6467751
Abstract: An inflation valve has a valve housing having an inner wall, a cylindrical inner chamber terminating in a gas outlet, and a gas inlet bore providing fluid communication between the inner chamber and a pressurized gas source. A piston enclosed in the inner chamber has at one end a head directed toward the gas outlet and at the opposite end a valve actuator connector. The piston further has a gas inlet seal, positioned between the head and the actuator connector, that releasably seals the gas inlet bore from the inner chamber when the piston is in a normal, non-actuated position. A valve actuator connected to the actuator connector operates to pull the piston, thereby moving the gas inlet seal away from the gas inlet bore and putting the inner chamber in fluid communication with the gas inlet bore and pressurized gas source.
