Abstract: Flexographic printing plates are prepared from photosensitive elastomeric compositions which comprise(1) about 15 to about 89 percent by weight of a carbamated poly(vinyl alcohol) polymeric binder,(2) about 10 to about 70 percent by weight of a compatible monomer, and(3) about 0.1 to about 10 percent by weight of a free-radical generating system.
Abstract: A method for producing a photopolymer image comprising (a) exposing, imagewise, a photosensitive element to actinic radiation, said element comprising a substrate coated with a photosensitive layer containing dispersed silver halide particles in operative association with a continuous film-forming phase of polymeric coupler, said coupler having (i) a number average molecular weight of about 2,000 to 100,000, (ii) a content of about 10 to 100 milliequivalents per 100 g of polymeric coupler of acidic methylene coupler groups and about 15 to 175 milliequivalents per 100 g of polymeric coupler of at least one of carboxylic, sulfonic and phosphonic acid groups, and (iii) the ability to couple with a monofunctional developing agent thus becoming water-insoluble; (b) developing (insolubilizing) the latent image; and (c) removing the undeveloped, soluble portion of the photosensitive element by washing with aqueous solvent.

Abstract: Optically active tert-alkyl 7-2(oxo-5-carbonyloxypyrrolidinyl)heptanoates and their preparation by reaction of racemic tert-alkyl 7-(2-oxo-5-carboxypyrrolidinyl)heptanoate with an optically active amine to form resolved d or l amine salts which are then reacted with acid to form resolved acid intermediates. Esterification of these acid intermediates produces resolved d or l esters which are useful to make optically active 8-azaprostanoids having biological activity.

Abstract: A fractionable, elastomeric polymer of 1-butene consisting essentially of 30% to 80%, by weight, of an ether-soluble fraction having an intrinsic viscosity exceeding 1.5 and an infrared crystallinity value of about 1% to 15%; and 20% to 70%, by weight, of an ether-insoluble fraction having an infrared crystallinity value of about 20% to 55%; said polymer having an nmr isotacticity of about 20% to 50% and an intrinsic viscosity exceeding 1.5; elastomeric copolymers of 1-butene; polymer blends containing said elastomeric polymers; and a catalytic process for making said elastomeric polymers.
Abstract: Human interferons produced in the absence of added serum or sera can be purified to greater than 95% protein purity by adsorption on immobilized Cibacron Blue F3G-A and eluting the interferon adsorbed on the Cibacron Blue F3G-A with ethylene glycol in an aqueous buffer solution. The purified interferon in solution can be converted to interferon of uniform molecular weight by heating the interferon solution in the presence of an organic thiol compound.
Abstract: A process for purifying an aqueous solution of NaOH by removing suspended NaCl and Na.sub.2 SO.sub.4 impurities therefrom comprising bubbling a gas into the impurity-containing NaOH solution at a first stage temperature above 16.degree. C. up to 31.degree. C. and at a second stage temperature above 31.degree. C. up to about 36.degree. C., separating a foam layer containing NaCl and Na.sub.2 SO.sub.4 from NaOH at the first stage and a foam layer containing Na.sub.2 SO.sub.4 from NaOH at the second stage.

Abstract: Improved corrosion inhibitor compositions for hydrocarbon fuels consisting of mixtures of (a) about 75 to 95 weight percent of a polymerized unsaturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having about 16 to 18 carbons, and (b) about 5 to 25 weight percent of a monoalkenylsuccinic acid wherein the alkenyl group has 8 to 18 carbons. Also described are concentrates of the above compositions in hydrocarbon solvents, as well as fuels containing the compositions.
