  • Patent number: 4821423
Abstract: This invention provides an instrument responsive to acceleration forces. In the preferred embodiment, a body of magnetic material is positioned in a cavity such that it moves to a central position in response to a magnetic field and moves along a preselected path in response to acceleration forces. Means is included permitting the position of the body of magnetic material to be determined. The position of the body of magnetic material relative to the structure of the instrument is an indication of the magnitude of the acceleration force applied to the instrument.

  • Patent number: 4809150
Abstract: A DC to DC converter capable of operating from a power source whose output voltage may change over a 10 to 1 range. A switching modulator is used to convert the DC input voltage into a pulsed voltage. Feed forward control techniques are used to control a switching modulator to rapidly compensate for changes in the amplitude of the input voltage. Feed back techniques are used to maintain the output voltage at the desired value. Isolation between the input and output is provided using a transformer to couple the switching circuits to a rectifier and filter which produces the output voltage. A filter optic link provides isolation for the feed back signal.

  • Patent number: 4795358
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for aligning, mating and unmating connectors as a result of relative motion between apparatus operatively associated with the two parts of the connector is disclosed. Specifically, as the apparatus operatively associated with the two parts of the connector move with respect to each other, the parts of the connector move along at least first and second angularly displaced paths to align, mate and unmate the connector as a result of such motion.

  • Patent number: 4644524
Abstract: A communication system for simultaneous exchange of signals between first and second stations in which a timing signal of low frequency alternately switches a first station between receive and transmit with equal time periods and simultaneously switches a second station between transmit and receive with the same time periods. During a receive period, signals for transmission are delayed until the next transmit period. During the transmit period, the delay signal is combined with the signal occupying the transmit period. The combined signal along with the timing signal is transmitted by the first station to the second station, after which the first radio station switches to receive under control of the timing signal. The second station under the control of the same timing signal now transmits a similar combined signal which is received by the first station for processing.

  • Patent number: 4633480
Abstract: A water cooled roof for an electric arc furnace made up of a multiplicity of water cooled panels surrounded by a water distribution and collection ring, each portion of the roof being insulated from each other portion, including the roof panel, support arms and the roof rack. The invention provides a means for interrupting the flow of an inductive current around each electrode by creating a gap in the metal surrounding each electrode, thus insulating the furnace roof or cover from each phase of the three phase current.
